Note

Pops' funeral/celebration of life was today and went very well. He'd have loved it. Lots of emotion, lots of laughs as well as tears, lots of music, lots of friends, lots of love. (But not a lot of physical activity.)

cycling (road/rail trail) 2:10:00 [3] 51.0 km (2:33 / km)

Clear, cool morning. I wore a jacket - and needed it! It was beautiful though.
Rode Duffy's, Old Church, HumberStation, Patterson, rail trail to Tottenham, stopped for a latte then rode rail trail, Mt. Hope home. Nice way to start the day. A lot of family and friends arrived later for Pops' funeral tomorrow. Fun.

Note

Beautiful breezy, blue-sky summer day. Drove up to visit Sainte Marie Among the Hurons with Goose's cousin from England, and the Girl. It was interesting. Then we did an easy 7km bike ride into Midland on the Tay trail, had a latte, visited a friend> Rode back with a stop for a swim on the way back. Such a nice day:)

cycling (road) 30:00 [3] 14.0 km (2:09 / km)

Dropped the car downriver, then road our bikes back to the Nicolston bridge. Carried them over the very loose jumble of rocks, locked them up underneath, and launched the canoe. Turns out we saved a whopping $5 by not launching at the campground. We'll know for next time. The ride was pretty much a straight line back to the bridge with a few hills and we made good time.
2 PM

canoeing (Nottawasaga) 3:30:00 [3] 23.0 km (9:08 / km)

Talked Goose into going for a paddle and got more than I bargained for! He wanted to go from Nicolston Dam (Alliston) toward Angus (the town). We tried to unload the boat near the dam but apparently it's private property and we got told off. So we moved to the bridge, stashed the boats and drove downriver. Left the car there, rode our bikes back to the bridge and then paddled to the car. Which took a long time. The Nottawasaga is pretty slow in this section with lots of shallow rocky sets to navigate. It was nice though. Hardly saw anyone else, couple of kayakers and fishers. Lots of Kingfishers, herons, some egrets, muskrat and several big, big snappers sliding into the water from the muddy banks. I was starting to wonder if we'd be paddling in the dark and I'd run out of water when we rounded a bend a saw the railroad bridge we were aiming for. Took-out at the bridge and portaged about a km up an old road back to the car. Longest portage I've done this summer. Only portage I've done I think:) And I somehow lost another pair of sunglasses:(

canoeing (Island Lake) 1:50:00 [3]

Another cool fresh morning, blue skies, and no wind at first but it came up mid-morning again. Duplicate of yesterday. Goose was up at the BPMR loading boats and I needed to pick up the Girl at the airport later today so I decided to do my own adventure. I managed to find 4 foamies and got the Red Rocket on the roof of the blue car which I can reach. Paddled solo, a full lap of the lake which was fine down the east arm but there was a significant steady WNW wind so coming back and around the west side was more work . I did have some big rocks in my bow for ballast so it was fine. One stop for a quick dip where there was a relatively sandy bottom but Island Lake is very weedy right now and low.
12 PM

trail Run (Glen Haffy) 45:00 [3] 7.0 km (6:26 / km)

Stopped at the back of Glen Haffy on my way home and ran the Bruce Trail through the park and then the red trail back. It was lovely under the hardwood canopy. I love trees.

roller ski (Cedar Mills) 1:05:00 [3] 15.0 km (4:20 / km)

Slipping down the other side of summer now. Crisp morning but beautiful. The cooler air made me decide to roller ski. It got quite windy this afternoon and there were some grey clouds scudding but it didn't rain. Nice temps for being outside. Skied the big loop at Cedar Mills and didn't feel too wobbly.
