classic ski (pancake ski) 1:45:00 [3] 8.0 km (13:08 / km)

Met up with some other adventurers at Highlands: Chanse, Kelly, Hayden, the Greens, Connie O., Tessa, Shelley and Tom for Kelly's annual ski-down-the-escarpment to the Duntroon Church pancake dinner. So fun. We headed north across the Sampson farm field and over 91 to the Bruce trail. The snow conditions were a bit tricky since it's been warm then started cooling off. There was a bit of a crust but not enough to stay on top so we broke through a lot and it was fairly deep and soft underneath so when we feel, which we did a lot, we were stuck for a bit trying to get out of the mush. Pretty hilarious at times. Skiing down through the trees onto Lobsinger road was comdey. The road allowance east down off the escarpment was one big runway and fast!
Then it was across the 10th and over the fields down to Syndenham Trail and through the various Sinclair back fields and then out along the road on neighbours' front lawns. We crossed 124 carefully and skied in behind the old elementary school, where feats of strength and acrobatics had to be performed on the bars - with skis on. And finally on to the pancake supper which was excellent, especially the pie for dessert:).

skate ski (lesson) 1:30:00 [3]

Another clear bright blue spring-like morning. Met Dee at Highlands for some skate work. We pretty much had the place to ourselves - the teaching area anyway. She worked her butt off! We had fun though and skied up top to take in the view in the sunshine. Goose and Tman lucked out big time as Dee left me a box of baked goodies that were much-appreciated when it came time for dessert tonight!
11 AM

skate ski (Highlands) 50:00 [3] 11.0 mi (4:33 / mi)

Dee headed home and I stayed up top for a good loop at a good pace just as the snow started getting soft and sticky in spots.

skate ski (Highlands) 1:10:00 [3] 12.0 km (5:50 / km)

Goose and I were invited to ski early before work since he missed out on his evening ski last night. It was beautiful. The sun came up over the hills at the same time we did and the colours on the horizon were gorgeous water-colour pinks and blues. Beautiful. We're so lucky.
10 AM

classic ski (lessons) 2:00:00 [3] 3.0 km (40:00 / km)

Fun lesson and ski on the front field with the UofT outers club group sponsored by Arc'teryx. They really enjoyed themselves and the weather couldn't have been better. All 30 of them headed out on the trails afterward and were having a great day.
11 AM

skate ski (lessons) 2:00:00 [3] 5.0 km (24:00 / km)

Lessons with very capable adults who worked pretty hard to learn some skate techniques. They were loving it. Hard not to on a sunny day like today. It was getting very warm but the snow stayed pretty nice.
3 PM

skate ski (Highlands) 1:00:00 [3] 12.0 km (5:00 / km)

It was just too nice out not to go for another loop. The snow was sloppy and sticky and slow in some places in the sun but in the shady spots it was getting fast again. Chanse has groomed a new loop at the top of the golf course, at the Lookout with permission. It's a blast with turns and bumps. Rydlo's Romp?

skate ski (Highlands) 1:35:00 [3] 19.0 km (5:00 / km)

Another gorgeous clear morning with excellent snow conditions. Did a good steady ski with Jillian and worked a bit on technique ski. Skied the whole system - plus. It was great.
11 AM

classic ski (lessons) 2:00:00 [3] 5.0 km (24:00 / km)

2 lessons in bright sunshine on perfect snow. So fun.
3 PM

skate ski (Highlands) 2:10:00 [3] 26.0 km (5:00 / km)

Last lesson was a no-show so I headed out for another ski - skate again since my classic boots got left at home. It was so gorgeous it just had to be done. Whole system again plus a few extra loops up top in the waning light.
50 k day:)

skate ski (Scenic Caves) 1:15:00 [3] 15.5 km (4:50 / km)

Beautiful blue-sky day but verrrry windy. Lots of drifting in some places on the road up and then out on the back trail at the Caves. Nice sing-songy ski with Goose who earned a crown on Murphy's Romp even though it wasn't a particularly fast day. Nice afternoon ski:)

skate ski (ofsaa) 5:00:00 [3] 18.0 km (16:40 / km)

Absolutely crystal clear morning, and cold. -20 but no wind just an endless blue sky, brilliant sunshine and dazzling snow :). Pre-skied the junior girls race course with an athlete and was just warm enough. Their race was chilly and the snow was squeaky but we had good green wax (LF4) and the kids did well. I skied the course 3 times to see kids and loved every minute. Arrowhead is beautiful and the trails are lovely. Huntsville did a great job of hosting ofsaa despite having to cancel day 2 due to the teachers' strike tomorrow:(
