Note

Spent a good 5 hours at Headwaters with Susie. Arrived at 6:20 and left at 11:20 this morning. She needed IV antibiotics because her leg gash was getting infected. The afternoon was spent trying to determine if and when home care was coming to administer the same thing at home for the next few days. A rest day - for the body, not the brain.:( Can't complain though , it was very good weekend of skiing.

skate ski (Highlands) 40:00 [3] 6.5 km (6:09 / km)

Soggy already by early morning. Was feeling pretty tired after a lot of skiing on the weekend. Did a short, slow skate and it was pretty sticky.

skate ski (Highlands) 3:00:00 [3] 35.0 km (5:09 / km)

Had asked Kelly and Chanse if we could do a sunrise ski today since it was forecast to be clear. Kelly was all over - she got to ski before work:). So the Flowers, Elise and Mrs. Huet, Tanya and Bruce, Morrie, Sana and her mom, arrived at 6:30 and got out on the trail in time to see a veeery hot pink sun peep over the horizon just as we crested the hill to Larry's Glacier. So pretty and special. Worth the early wake up. Most of us skied together for a yellow loop then spread out to do our own thing in the brilliant sparkly bright morning sunshine and snow. It was still quite cold when we started and soft snow so it wasn't fast but it was gorgeous. It was an EFI ski with some extra loops, including a couple of the new Chancey's Fancy up at the top of the golf course. So fun!
10 AM

skate ski (lessons) 3:00:00 [3] 4.0 km (45:00 / km)

Good skate lesson and then 2 classic lessons in warming conditions but lovely.
2 PM

classic ski (Highlands) 1:20:00 [3] 12.0 km (6:40 / km)

One more ski while it was still pretty sweet conditions. It was getting warm and a bit sticky but supposed to be really warm and wet tomorrow so I did a nice classic orange loop with an extra bit. Think it was a 50k day:)

classic ski (Highlands) 1:30:00 [3] 15.0 mi (6:00 / mi)

Waited till this morning to drive up but despite it being very clear there was a wicked west wind still and many hard-packed icy spots all the way up Airport rd. Bit of white-knuckle driving with Elise. Cold conditions but TONS of new snow, almost 80 cm over the past 3 days! Soft, soft trail conditions but sooo nice. Great classic ski day. Skied at a nice steady pace with Connie O. for a full loop then came down to the chalet for the Trailblazer lunch.
1 PM

classic ski (relay) 30:00 [3]

It was Jackrabbit carnival day (finale) this morning and so the full trailblazer club decided to host a bbq lunch and fun relay this afternoon. They mixed up all ages, genders etc. into teams of 5 for a Parloff relay. We each did about 200m at a time for 4 legs. So much fun. There were abouta dozen teams and each had a tiny jackrabbit, a high school-aged comp. kid and a master or 2. It was a blast and the day had warmed just enough so that it wasn't squeaky slow and people chose to skate or classic as they wished. All this followed by full on kid-tossing into the deep soft snow where they disappeared briefly, and then a big snow war. Great day:)
2 PM

classic ski (Highlands) 1:30:00 [3] 16.0 mi (5:37 / mi)

Trail conditions this afternoon were too nice not to go out again:)

classic ski (rail trail) 2:25:00 [3]

No dizziness this morning but still a bit tired.
No idea how far I actually skied today but it was slow with all the fresh and falling snow. The rail trail was mostly out of the wind but there were open places and some good drifts. Someone had skied some tracks in which made it easier in some places but they were obliterated in other spots by the wind, and new snow. Other than those tracks I could have been in the remote north. I saw no one, just a few cars when I crossed the main roads. It took almost an hour to get from the Palgrave pavilion to Gore Road. It was a bit faster back in my tracks. I explored a little loop near the wetland. There was no fence but I may have been trespassing? Then I popped into Albion Hills, and lo and behold it was nicely groomed!?! It's never like that! So I had to ski for a bit in there. It was really nice but I was getting tired by then. And the snow just kept coming.

snowshoeing (meander) 1:20:00 [3]

Snowy. blowy day and I woke up with vertigo and felt crappy. Mrs. Huet called
wanting to get out and do something but the driving was pretty bad due to the high winds so we didn't drive anywhere to ski we just headed out from her house in Caledon East on snowshoes and meandered along the creek and marshy wetlands that lead to Innis Lake. It was perfect down there out of the wind but in beautiful sunshine, and it was the perfect pace for me today. Felt better moving outside but still didn't feel great.
