hiking (Beattie Pinery) 45:00 [1]

Goose showed me a new trail he "discovered" one day on a ride to Alliston. The Beattie Pinery Nature Reserve is just south of Alliston and was donated by a family who owned a farm there. They had left an area along the north side of the Nottawasaga, south side of the 13 Line, as forest and didn't farm it. It's a beautiful mixed forest with very impressively tall pines that you don't see too many places in southern Ontario. It was a flat trail but very pretty.

canoeing (Earl Rowe) 1:40:00 [3]

It was a relatively cool day after a hot week. Quite grey and windy. Great day for us each to solo a canoe:). At least we took a barrel each filled with water to put ballast in the bows. Since the prov. parks are still free until Monday we drove up to Alliston to paddle the Nottawasaga there. We headed north up the north channel into a very strong and gusty headwind. We weren't very straight or fast! Had a bit of rain and then turned around a little ways out of the park boundary and flew back to the beach area. We explored a channel on the west side we'd never been up before and it was nice and sheltered. Eventually it narrowed and got very winding but it was fun to see a new place.

deed:
- got Susie out for a walk this morning
- sent my nephews a pizza:)

cycling (road/rail trail) 1:55:00 [3] 39.0 km (2:57 / km)

Beautiful morning - rain washed blue sky and sunshine and not hot! Goose and I rode a big block up to Palgrave. Almost stopped by to say hi to Bash and Bent, but heard things might have been a bit stinky there so we chose not to!

deed:
- picked a huge number of various hues of lilacs and left a large bucketful at the seniors' apartment, King Nursing Home and Vera Davis Centre

Note

Cycled to Susie's and took her for a walk, then worked on patching the garden fence to keep the bunnies at bay. Afterward, I rode up town for some groceries. So more-or-less a rest day. It was dead calm and grey all morning and then finally some soaking rain this aft. It was so nice:)

trail Run (Humber Valley) 55:00 [3] 5.0 km (11:00 / km)

Forecast to be another stinker but the early morning was lovely. I felt like crap to start, 100 yrs. old and 200lbs of dead weight. Did a 5 min. jog, some track mobility, agility drills for 15 min. in the shady park, then went out on the trail to feeling a bit better.

deed:
- lilac picking for Margo and Susie. The lilacs are late but lovely:)
10 AM

Note

A couple of hours of of hoeing and watering - with a watering can. That must be some kind of strength workout.

canoeing (Beaver River) 2:20:00 [3] 13.8 km (10:09 / km)

Sooo hot again. After some morning chores and gardening Goose needed to pick up something in Duntroon so we took the canoe and paddled the Beaver while we were there. Started at Kimberley and paddled a couple of km up river where we haven't been before. I can see why it's called the Beaver River. We didn't see any beavers but we sure saw their construction skills! We paddled up and over, or hauled the canoe over many dams and there were a lot of lodges.
Turned around and paddled down river for a few kms in a warm gentle rain shower. It felt so good. Then we we got back upriver to the car we had a swim and it was delicious:). Then we saw a beaver.

deed:
- put in Susie's air conditioner (with Goose of course)

cycling (road) 2:00:00 [4] 41.0 km (2:56 / km)

HOT day!! Even this morning. I made a red kale delivery to Bash by bike. The plants more or less survived a somewhat bumpy ride - I hope.
I worked hard on the up hills and came home pretty sweaty. Sure wish I had somewhere to swim.

Deed:
- red kale delivery to Palgrave
- exercises with Susie

mtbike (road/Albion Hills) 2:15:00 [4] 30.0 km (4:30 / km)

Hot summery day. After morning garden chores we wanted to try getting on the mt. bikes and thought it might be crowded on the trails at Albion on such a nice Sunday. But then the weather forecast was for rain and possible thunderstorms and big grey clouds were gathering. So we decided maybe it wouldn't be so busy. It wasn't. At all. We rode up Duffy's and saw a family leaving from that access point. Then we saw no one for an hour and half. We biked pretty hard and it was awesome. Trails were in great shape. Obviously people have been clearing the trails even though the Albion site says there's been no maintenance. It was so good. We saw a few hikers near the Patterson/Duffy's Lane access but other than that it was empty. Eerily empty.

deed:
- flowers to cheer up Margo
