cycling (road) 1:25:00 [3] 30.0 km (2:50 / km)

Not as hot today, and very breezy. Had a dentist appointment with Bent so I rode up to Palgrave against the wind to his new fortress. I was thoroughly screened and cleaned before he worked on my teeth with his plexiglas shield, mask and goggles. I felt extremely safe!! What a lot of work for him and his staff but they did it politely and cheerfully. Such is the crazy world of Covid. My ride home was almost 10 minutes faster than the ride up there. Fun.

swim (Georgian Bay) 20:00 [3]

It was so hot still overnight and it was a beautiful early morning. Didn't want to disturb the O-family at our "campsite" in their backyard so I snuck off for a short swim off the pier. I would happy to do that every day. Can't be in a bad mood after a morning swim in a cool lake. Love it. And I thought I might be alone there except for a few dog walkers. Wrong. It wasn't packed but it was pretty darned busy. Dozens of people fishing, plus the dog walkers, a few early swimmers, joggers, and a bunch of teenagers - at 6:45 am!?! Maybe they'd been up all night. But I was definitely not alone.

cycling (rail trail) 1:00:00 [3] 20.0 km (3:00 / km)

Had hoped to meet Bash and Bent for a paddle this morning but the forecast was a bit foreboding with thunderstorm watches and tornado warnings etc. It was nice earyl but the black clouds were looming off in the distance. So while Goose and Connie went for an easy run I rode the nearby rail trails. Nice and flat and shady:)
A quick thunderstorm struck just as predicted with some wild wind and lightening, heavy rain - and then it was over.
Great weekend, but I managed to lose my phone somewhere on 4th street?

canoeing (Beaver River) 3:30:00 [3] 18.0 km (11:40 / km)

HOTTTTT Day!! Met Connie O. up in Heathcote and we all left our bikes there then drove the canoes up to Kimberley. Angus soloed and I paddled with Connie. It was quiet and peaceful and we saw the elegant egrets, as well as herons, geese, a big old snapper, kingfishersetc. and otherwise seemed to have the river to ourselves. Then we hit Epping. What a zoo! From then on it was flotilla after flotilla of all manner of floaties: poop emojis, giant ducks, swans, ring toys, a huge octupus with various tentacles that held people. One thing in coomon - coolers, cans, lots of "hydration" going on. One more thing in commom - no paddles, no lifejackets. But we were able to get by the merry groups and in between the river was still nice. It was hot though. We jumped in once to cool off and had a floating lunch in some shade.
3 PM

cycling (road) 35:00 [3] 12.0 km (2:55 / km)

Connie and I rode our bikes back up to the car in Kimberley from Heathcote while Goose rode up and over to Collingwood- the reverse of what Connie had done earlier. She and I drove back for the canoes and then drove to the pier in Collingwood where we met Goose for an awesome swim. Lots of other folks cooling off there but It was lovely clear water. Felt soooo good!

cycling (road/rail trail) 4:00:00 [3] 75.0 km (3:12 / km)

What a gorgeous morning. I got out early to beat the heat and it was perfect. Lots of shade on the Caledon roads and the rail trail is like a tunnel of shade.
Rode up to the rail trail then west till the sign at Kennedy that says the brideg over hwy 10 is closed. So I headed south on the dirt road and then the wide paved shoulder down to King and over to Heart Lake and north back up to Old Baseline. Then headed east again to Cal. East, and had a drink at 4 Corners where apparently they're not too fussy about the recent mandatory mask rule. Once I returned to the trail I used my cup to pick some beautiful black raspberries in a patch I found. The next hour was more foraging than biking as I also filled one waterbottle with red raspberries. So good:)
5 PM

canoeing (Island Lake) 1:20:00 [3]

We needed to get something in O'ville so we took the canoe and paddled around Island lake afterward. It was a beautiful evening with a nice breeze to keep the heat bearable, plus a I took a dip in the deep section from the boat. Hoisting myself back into the canoe wasn't pretty but it was worth it. Very pleasant outing. We are so lucky.

mixed run intervals (park) 35:00 [4]

Grey, muggy day. Very humid.
10 min. around the park then
15 minutes of mobility/agility/jumping drills in the sand on the vball courts.
That was enough to bring on pouring sweat than ran into my eyes.
Finished with a jog around the park to the black raspberry bushes which are pretty laden right now:)

canoeing (Mattawa River) 5:00:00 [3] 21.0 km (14:17 / km)

Got an early start today. There was a chance of rain later so we got ourselves packed up early. We were able to run a couple of nice swifts and then a Goose talked me through a very tricky, rocky boneyard where we found a line with just enough water and we managed to only "kiss" a couple of rocks . It was fun. Then we paddled on through Samuel de Champlain Prov. Park where the river widens and is very picturesque for an hour. Eventually it widens more just above the town of Mattawa and the dam. We paddled right out to the Ottawa River where we were picked up by Al's very nice wife. right by the Big Joe Mufferaw statue. Nice trip:)

canoeing (Mattawa River) 5:00:00 [3] 18.0 km (16:40 / km)

Gorgeous day. Clear and bright but not stinking hot. Had a good day with several portages but also some rapids we were able to run. The water was low which actually makes whitewater more technical - less room/water to get by rocks. I followed Goose's instructions and we had several good short sets which meant fewer portages. It was fun.
The Chute des Paresseux was spectacular and after that the gorge was very cool and picturesque. We found the single campsite on Bouillion Lake and had the lake to ourselves. Not that we'd seen anyway except up at the fall yesterday. But, the damn bullfrogs were just as loud!!
