canoeing (Beaver River) 2:20:00 [3] 13.5 km (10:22 / km)
Big weather change by the time we got up to hwy 89. Went from sunshine to heavy grey clouds and some rain drops. Goose and I arrived at ABC 2.0 to meet Bash and Bent and get a (masked) tour of the new house - which is so nice! Then the 4 of us plus A-dog, and B-dog (in 2 separate cars) went over to Epping Bridge to go for a paddle. The skies had cleared again and it was a lovely late afternoon. A-dog started in our boat, B-dog started in Bash's and Bent's boat. But that didn't last - he jumped out and started swimming and towing their canoe while A-dog whimpered and whined in ours. So, once Bash got B-dog back in their boat, along with a fair bit of muck and water, A-dog was transferred to B-dog's boat to see if they'd calm down. Nope. B-dog was just too wound, and made their boat very bow heavy making it hard for Bent to solo and steer since Bash had to use 2 hands to hang on to B-dog. So that lasted 800m, 20 minutes, before Bash said "Ok, that's enough" They turned back, but Goose and I carried on upriver for another hour and then paddled back down. The wind changed just as we were finishing and the weather changed again with temps dropping noticeably but the sky clearing.
We had a really good Thanksgiving dinner on the deck at their new house and then camped under an amazingly clear sky with stars sparkling like diamonds. It was pretty nippy but so pretty.
Thumbs up for their campsite: tent pad was fine, with a tented privy just steps away in the woods. Covid protocol was careful and doable.
