classic ski (Highlands) 3:00:00 [3] 32.0 km (5:38 / km)

So much snow. Chanse did a great job with 60cm+! The classic track was firm but slightly cushy and so nice! I had 2 beautiful loops of the red at a good pace.

classic ski (Highlands) 3:00:00 [3] 31.0 km (5:48 / km)

After some food and then a lesson with Anton I stayed up and did 2 more red loops+. It was lovely and I felt great, decided I could ski my age:). I was getting a bit hungry and sloppy and slower for the final 5 km but the conditions were perfect and I was loving it.

classic ski (back country) 1:50:00 [3] 10.0 km (11:00 / km)

Pancake Tuesday so the traditional pancake ski was this evening. And man was it snowy!! Snowed all last night all day today at least 50 cm of fresh fluffy stuff. It was ridiculously deep snow. It snowed heavily the whole time we were out too. 10 Highlands staff skied out to the sugar shack then cross country over 2 farm fields and then up 91 and across to the Bruce Trail. Headed north through the woods and hip deep snow - thankfully the 2 teenage boys and 19 yr-old young woman broke trail most of the way. We crossed the big field and wound our way through a wooded section to the Lobsinger Rd. allowance which drops off the edge of the world, the escarpment at least for a big long run. We crossed the 10th and another big field then took an ATV trail through the woods to the final big downhill over the cornfield to Duntroon. Slow, but sooooo fun!

skate ski (Highlands) 1:50:00 [3] 22.0 km (5:00 / km)

Lots of very fine snow overnight and again this morning which made for a sweet pillow top on the hard groomed trail. Not deep though so skating was liking skiing on a cloud. Heavenly:). Dreamy ski.

skate ski (Highlands) 1:00:00 [3] 5.0 mi (12:00 / mi)

Crazy busy again today. Brilliant blue skies and warmer than yesterday meant more people came out and lots were newbies to Highlands and beginner skiers. Which = more incidents of irregular stuff.
1. The first aggressive and obnoxious person to argue heatedly about the Covid screen we require. Insisting he had done it, correctly, exactly the same as he always does. "And I can PROVE it! You are wrong. I'm going to hire a lawyer..." Unbelieveable. Sadly he was wearing a C3 hat which kind of gives that club a bad name. He had done the screening for Scenic Caves.
2. Older man out on the back orange. Wife calls to say he's having chest pains and can't ski back. Has to be treated as a potential heart attack. I skied all over trying to find him. Finally found him 1/2 way down to the hairpin, Walking. Talking. The fire truck and ambulance were in the parking lot, that had to be partially cleared, when he arrived by snowmobile and he was taken to the hospital to be checked.
3. A fast skier who had, by several accounts, basically skied right over more than one person out on the trail and was described as rude, tore a strip off me when I asked her if there had been some kind of collision out on the back red and was everyone ok. In a thick Russian accent, and with considerable volume, she laid into me in front of the chalet about my "accusations" and denied vehemently any such incident. Then went on a rampage about weak slow skiers and how they shouldn't be out on the trails (in her way) etc. etc.
Wow. So much for trail etiquette.
4. The trails close at 4:30. People were still trying to head out onto the trails at 4:20. There were still more than 30 cars in the parking lot at 5:00.
What is wrong with these people?!

classic ski (Highlands) 1:20:00 [3] 12.0 km (6:40 / km)

After-work ski with Kelly, Chanse, 2 of their friends, Teal and Goose. After a spectacularly dazzling bright blue-sky day a light cloud cover dropped a gentle layer of snow. Beautiful classic skiing yet again at dusk. Love it:)

classic ski (Highlands) 1:20:00 [3] 12.0 km (6:40 / km)

Pretty chilly morning at -20. But no wind and the sun came out for a while so driveway duty wasn't bad. It seemed to get damper and an east wind came up later in the afternoon. Went out to sweep the trails with Kelly, Goose and Sanna and it started snowing. Very pretty and a lovely light layer made the tracks a dream. We had such a nice a ski to finish the day:)

Been doing a daily stretch of the tight back but needed to do a good long one of everything. Plus planks, balances
12 PM

skate ski (Highlands) 1:20:00 [3] 17.5 km (4:34 / km)

The "On the Bay" magazine editor asked Kelly to find someone older than 55 for a skate ski photo shoot. There are many excellent skiers she could have asked. But since we hang around and don't work during the week that's the best she could do. Goose and I met the photographer out front and he snowshoed up and took pictures as we skied, Kind of fun. We talked him into going right up to the lookout and although it wasn't a bright clear blue sky it was clear enough to see the bay and many beautiful layers of blue. Cold though. So after an hour of staging shots i was ready to move to warm up.
Skied a warm up short blue loop. The n did some intervals
4 x back orange (4:20 x4) with cut thru' to rest, tried to sprint up twin peaks
3 x ridge top loop (approx. 3:00 x 3) with 20 sec. rest,
2 x 2:00 hard on the Hawberry with 30 sec. rest.
1:00 hard uphill on the driving range, 1 min. on the flat past the lookout
Then down to the green for a lap, and over to Teal's Tangos for a 3km mindless cooldown

classic ski (Highlands) 3:25:00 [3] 33.0 mi (6:13 / mi)

Snow-globe morning! Gentle swirling, big, fat flakes layering to make a pillowy layer on top of hard tracks. It was like heaven. Met the Thurs. ladies for a lovely loop. A bit tired from yesterday's exertions but once we got warmed up it was great. After that loop I met up with Mrs. Huet for another one. It was just too beautiful not to stay out.
