classic ski (Yellowknife) 50:00 [3] 8.5 km (5:53 / km)

Nippier day again but bright and blue. Goose and I did our volunteer hours at the ski club. The Territorial Races are on this weekend. Nice that here they don't start until 1:00! Warmer that way. Such nice people!
Afterward we skied the race course a few times.

classic ski (Yellowknife) 40:00 [3] 8.0 km (5:00 / km)

Got over to the ski club early despite a late night driving around to find good aurora viewing spots. There was a good show last night and at one point, just on the edge of town overlooking the ravine where the ski club is, there was a beautiful swirl and then suddenly the amazing sound of wolves howling. Magic.
Had a nice wake up classic ski on the race course for the weekend. It's a gently rolling course with really only one steep climb and conditions were excellent. It was already up to -7 by 9:00!
10 AM

skate ski (Yellowknife) 22:00 [3] 5.0 km (4:24 / km)

Switched to skate and did a couple more loops with one at race pace. Gliding was pretty good and it was such a spring-like morning how could a person not be happy? It was up to zero by this afternoon.
Used the wax room before leaving since we won't be allowed to use it this weekend as they're trying to keep numbers inside down due to covid restrictions. No cases here but there are still restrictions, distancing and masks. Pretty light compared to Ontario but it's still a covid world.

skate ski (Yellowknife) 1:55:00 [3] 20.0 km (5:45 / km)

Got a window to go for a ski again at the ski club and it was pretty nice again today. Not because they groomed it but because the trail was skied in a bit and the snow was warmish again. Not quite as warm as yesterday but warmer than -10. Saw a very cute young red fox out on the trail in almost exactly the same spot where I almost hit a lynx coming around a bend right in the tracks!
Very cool.

skate ski (Yellowknife) 2:00:00 [3] 24.0 km (5:00 / km)

Another beautiful sunny bright day that got up to ... -2! Crazy!
The trails at the club weren't groomed and there was another layer of fresh snow but it was warmed and transformed enough to be a lovely cloud of gliding. I had the easiest ski yet.

skate ski (Yellowknife) 1:15:00 [3] 13.0 km (5:46 / km)

Another super sunny cold day that didn't really warm up much. Goose and I tried skating at the ski club anyway. It was actually groomed - for a few km. Then suddenly it was ungroomed. There was about 8 cms of cold, scratchy new snow and it was not easy going. But it was pretty.
With the late light we took Kynyn and Ahfré out to the Cameron River ramparts for a short but very scenic hike. Ahfré's first:)

classic ski (Frame Lake) 55:00 [3] 8.0 km (6:53 / km)

Very bright but quite cold today. The Girl and her boys came to our house for the day as their furnace topped working overnight at -30. It was a slow day of hanging out with them and holding and watching Ahfré. So Goose and I went for another late afternoon ski on the 2nd day of daylight saving time and it was the warmest part of the day with tons of sunlight still at 6:00:)
The 10 cm of fine sandy snow overnight was nice but ungroomed on the lake so it wasn't very fast but it was nice snow to kick a track into. We went up off the lake on the trail multi-use trail for a while too.

classic ski (Dettah) 1:00:00 [3] 8.0 km (7:30 / km)

Snowy overnight and this morning. Fine, lovely snow but not a ton. After a small birthday party for a great aunt of Randy's (another first in over a year!) Goose and I headed out on the east side of Great Slave Lake from Dettah across a narrow strip of land and onto Duck Lake. Sure felt like we were out there. Just spruce trees, rocks and lots and lots of space. Gorgeous. Skied on snowmoblie tracks out and back at a balmy -11:). Very nice ski.
