pole walking (Highlands) 1:05:00 [3] 6.0 km (10:50 / km)

After some hard labour shovelling dirt, and planting some spruce in the front field at Highlands I took my poles and went for good hike with poles on the ski trails. It was supposed to be a dreary wet day but it wasn't. It was cool but mostly sunny this morning - a gorgeous fall day really. The holes were already scooped out for the 3-4 foot tall trees that were left in pots beside the holes. But it was still work to get the tree out of the pot and then backfill the hole. There are 400 trees so it's going to take a while for various volunteers to get them all in the ground.

cycling (road/rail trail) 1:10:00 [3] 24.0 km (2:55 / km)

Worked in the basement pulling up old tile and carpet underpad. Not that much fun but needs to be done. I was ready to get outside and since the rain still hadn't started I got in a nice flat ride out to Batteaux and back to the trail along the harbour front and up Ash Creek home. Felt like fall, brisk but pleasant.

hiking (HVHTrail) 1:00:00 [3] 6.0 km (10:00 / km)

Walked the trail from Susie's through Bolton Camp to Humberview to teach today because it was forecast to be quite rainy. It wasn't. I could have ridden. After school I hiked the Bolton Camp loop and then home. Crazy day. All the systems, internet were down for the whole day. So essentially no one was able to do any normal stuff. The school phones didn't work, no computers or Chromebooks could be used, no library circulation desk, no presentations, data on cell phones was intermittent due to heavy use as people attempted to stay "connected".We are soooo dependent on digital devices. We couldn't even do attendance - the one thing we're legally required to do at school.
Basically there was an all day ping pong tournament in the cafeteria (so covid-safe), classes out throwing balls around, or going for walks, and teachers and admin. trying to keep things under control. And at lunch a kid tried to hang himself from a soccer goal. Luckily a guy cutting the school field saw him and stopped him and a neighbour went out to help, called 911 - and then ran over to the school to tell the main office, because the phones weren't working:(. a shit-show. Teachers are so done, and it's not even the end of October.

trail Run (Bolton Camp) 35:00 [3] 4.0 km (8:45 / km)

Jogged the Bolton Camp trail on my lunch. It was really nice, not too wet, and very peaceful.

cycling (road) 1:00:00 [3] 20.0 km (3:00 / km)

Staying down in Bolton since our house is now getting gutted, and Ahfré and the Girl are at Grandma Susie's. Had a good long walk pushing the baby and then supply taught this afternoon. Rode a Mt. Hope-Old Church-Mt. Pleasant loop after work.

cycling (road/rail trail) 1:30:00 [3] 35.0 km (2:34 / km)

Still warm with clouds and the threat of rain. Rode with Connie and Dave O out the Georgian Trail to Northwinds and then we wound our way up into the chalets and back down through Monterra to the trail again. it was a steady ride but there was a deep conversation about climate change and what the CCAT should be doing.
