cycling (road/trail) 4:00:00 [3] 85.0 km (2:49 / km)

Lovely, mostly sunny day with little wind. I wanted to do a relatively long ride as part of preparing for the Cancer Ride in June. Goose and I rode west on the Georgian Trail to County Rd.40 then up and onto 7Th Line up, up, to County Rd.21 up, up, up past Loree Forest , up up and up some more to 4th Line. For some reason I found the air had just enough chill off the bay I guess that I was on the edge of cold all ride! Except on that climb. I couldn't get comfortable. I had a windbreaker but needed another layer and a buff but didn't have them:( Evetnually as we headed south away from the water it got a bit warmer but descending down into Glen Huron from Singhampton was chilly again! Luckily the stop at Giffen's came when I was hungry and the sun was warm there, and the cookie and drink were appreciated. We rode pretty hard back down 6th (another 6th!) Concession to the train trail and home.

cycling (Island Lake) 45:00 [3] 14.0 km (3:13 / km)

The weather finally cleared this afternoon and on my way home I stopped at Island Lake and rode around on the trail and then on the road a bit just to get out in the sunshine finally after so much grey. And it was warm enough for shorts.

cycling (HeartLake) 1:10:00 [3] 18.0 km (3:53 / km)

Took my bike down to supply teach at Mayfield and got over to Heart Lake at lunch time. I was thinking I could mountain bike on the trails but it was pretty saturated from all the recent rain and quite gucky. So I rode over to the Etobicoke Creek trail which is mostly paved and it it was so nice. I saw my first goldfinch of the season, a heron flew right in front of me, there were was so much beautiful birdsong, all the apple and cherry trees were just blossoming, and hardly anyone on the trail, especially north of Conservation Drive. Urban nature can be lovely.

cycling (road/trail) 1:00:00 [3] 21.0 km (2:51 / km)

Yet another wet chilly grey day. I was supply teaching at Mayfield and just about to go outside at lunch for a track practice when the school alarms went off and we went into lock down. So I spent an hour locked in a change room with 10 very nice kids. They were genuinely frightened as this did not seem to be a practice. It wasn't. A guy had come to the school looking for a Mayfield student he had a beef with. There seemed to be a lot of kids rushing out the hallway toward the Mayfield pool parking lot and a teacher followed to see what was going on. The stranger had something in his hand and ducked into the school so following safety protocol they had to lockdown the school and call in the police, and dogs. In the end the weapon turned out to be a baton but it really left the students agitated and many kids were picked up by their parents right away.
I was ready for a bike ride by the time I got home - even though it was wet and cold. Rode out to 19 and down to the Georgian Trail and back along the
harbour front trail. It was actually ok despite the drizzle and damp and there was part of a rainbow. Life is still good. I am very lucky:)

Goose and I were baked this morning. But it wasn't raining so I snuck in a short ride before it started. For the rest of the day

cycling (town trails) 40:00 [3] 14.0 km (2:51 / km)

The rain did stop this evening and it seemed quite fresh and spring-like so I rode the town trails again. Flat. I couldn't have done any hills.
