E2C 24h rogaine - turned out to be a great weekend. After driving to Halifax in torrential rain we thought the woods would be pretty wet. In fact it was quite dry and no snow. Warm and overcast on Saturday, starry night, and the sun came out Sunday morning. Torrential rain for the drive home. Guess we got pretty lucky.
Course was good, with plenty of heinous NS bushwacking. If there's worse bushwacking out there, I'd be curious to know what it is (but not necessarily bushwack through it). Most of the course was off-trail, which I really like.
Navigation wise things went really well, with only a couple of small errors. In terms of strategy, I think we chose a pretty efficient route. However, overnight we decided not to go after one control which would have added about 1.5k of bushwaking. At the time we made the decision, a significant section of the course we had yet to complete was bushwaking, and given how slow previous bushwaking had been, we wanted to ensure that we made it back by the cut off. Turned out we should have gone after it as it ended up being the only control we left out on the course, and finished with 1.5h to spare. We ended up 3rd but were left wondering what would have been.
Another great E2C.
Looking at the results, I have to wonder how is it that some teams make it to so few controls?
