One minor to me mistake, running too fast on a trail and not being exactly sure where I left it. The other hugh--tried to read the green leaving a trail and not paying enough attention to the contours. I was further back than I thought so ignored the hill up ahead where I wanted to be. I'm sure I wouldn't have had a problem if I had gone straight. As it was, I had to go back out to the trail and then up till I could see the junction before trying again. Maybe a 6-7 min. mistake--ugh. An ugly day of orienteering that seems to be getting more frequent as I get older.

Aware of being off on my compass yesterday, I was more careful. Still needed to correct both ways with contours. Had one mistake checking out some extra palmettos and another when I could see forever but couldn't see anything that looked like a thicked ahead. That hesitation added up to a couple of minutes. Old O-shoes that were comfee in Calif. gave me a couple of blisters. I'll have to switch to running shoes tomorrow. With no hills, it is a good place to do it.

I had a nice time with Mary and Spike (Peter went to the board meeting) visiting Blue Springs State Park. We got a good look at the manatees, some fish, an alligator, turtle and some birds and lizards. But I did spend too much time on sore feet.

Up at 3:30am to catch a flight to Fl from Boston. I had an earlier start time than Peter, but had time to tape my feet in the car and partially change. Just enough time to finish changing and then fumble on my compass etc. during the call up. Two bad falls and more trips from some vines, but it was a nice area for orienteering with excellent visibility (which helped as my compass kept pointing me too far right).

A little more ice on the ground today, otherwise excellent running conditions. Foot and back about the same. Worked some on pacing, probably too little too late for florida. Powerline and return.

One last dog comment. His owners retrieved him. I explained about the diarrhea, but they discounted his need to go out in the middle of the night, thinking I was "too soft." So they ignored him at 3:30 am and the poor thing made a mess in his crate. So much easier to take him out!

Mutliday migraine is finally easing. Cold and windy today. Back is still improving. Foot a little worse. Powerline and return.
| Note | |

I've had the dubious pleasure of spending some time in the freezing night air. The dog is having some digestive upset, either from all those ummy deer droppings or the kennel where I picked it up. So one night it was at 2:30am and last night at 12:30 and 5:00am. Burrr... But at least I get to give the dog back.

Such a beautiful day I had to go out, maybe 57 deg., but didn't feel that warm on the mountain. Back a bit better, foot the same. Powerline and return.

Dog sitting a friends dog. We have been on a couple of walks today. It is finding a bunch of goodies--deer dropings, a dead mouse. I don't think it is used to such bounty.

A beautiful day(53 deg.), but my body was not happy I took it for a run. I usually don't get nauseous from a migraine, but it hit today. Took meds after I got back. The back is slowly improving. Same foot pain. A mix of slush, ice, wet ground, but nothing very difficult. Powerline and return.

We only had 3-4 inches of snow. Amazing how much it still slowed me down. It felt easy to run in. Back finally starting to feel better, but still hurt a lot by the end of my run. Powerline and return.

Back still bad. It would have been nice to go on a longer run before the expected snow storm. Powerline and return.

Back still bad so skipped yoga and weights, probably should have skipped running as well. Still feeling the effects of taking a muscle relaxant yesterday and not in a good way. Worked hard and felt strange on the way up and then ran very carefully coming back. Powerline and return.

Woke with a sore back yesterday. Still very sore today, so ran gingerly after letting an excedrin work. Not bad starting , but very sore by the end. Kept my mind off my sore foot. Powerline and return.
Sunday Feb 5 |
| running 49:26 [3] | |

Dodging lots of puddles after another heavy rain storm, but most of the ice and snow are gone. Would have been faster, but time includes a few trips into the woods to avoid the biggest puddles. Powerline and return.
Friday Feb 3 |

Lots of puddles after a heavy morning rain. Overdressed in case it started to rain again. I am much better at avoiding wet feet on the way up. I must have a heavier footplant coming down but often I get wet on the flats. I'm guessing I enter the flats with more speed and I'm just not as good at seeing the water. I know it's silly to be a trail runner who avoids wet feet, but dry feet means I don't have to take apart my shoes, orthotics, braces, insoles to dry everthing out. Powerline and return.

A nice day except for the "rain" dripping from the trees. Still somewhat slushy but not bad. Let the Great Dane and black Lab go by. The owners always say how friendly their dogs are, but often a runner is just too hard to resist. Right foot and left hip pain. Powerline and return.
