orienteering race 23:53 [3] *** 1.83 km (13:03 / km) +50m 11:29 / km
shoes: Jalas
CNYO Sprint. Sloppy orienteering, and not moving well.
orienteering race 58:19 [3] *** 2.98 km (19:34 / km) +85m 17:08 / km
shoes: Jalas
Pace was way off between #4-5, so took awhile to recover from that. I took a fall after #6 in the felled area, probably on some wet logs. It totally zapped whatever is wrong with my right knee, very painful. Lay there for a good minute before getting up and moving slowly on. Walked slowly and carefully with an occasional jog toward the end. But in accord with the words of the day, I felt great! Didn't go out the next day. Knee is swollen and sore. I guess it is time to visit the doctors.

Thursday Sep 21

Note
Right knee once again too sore to exercise. This pain started after my run on Sept. 4--a new one for me and I don't know what it is.

Sunday Sep 17

orienteering race 20:53 [4] *** 2.4 km (8:42 / km) +40m 8:02 / km
shoes: Jalas
This was a very open, very fast area. Not good for a slow poke like me in a mass start type race. Groins and knee hurt the most in this first race.
orienteering race 26:19 [4] *** 2.32 km (11:21 / km) +55m 10:08 / km
shoes: Jalas
Sprint #2. More woods orienteering. I did relatively better, but still managed a few of my own mistakes. Slower pace, and the least painful sprint.
orienteering race 26:58 [4] *** 2.55 km (10:35 / km) +80m 9:08 / km
shoes: Jalas
Sprint #3 B-Final. Did well through the map exchange, but shortly after my right leg decided it had had enough and started to cramp. Felt more like it was from a nerve irritation, but it limited my running form and speed. Still a few bobbles here and there. So no clean runs, but was pleased that I was able to complete all three sprints. The format is less than ideal for me. It is possible to beat someone 2 out of 3 sprints and still end up behind them. And I compete against people who msp or dnf.( I probably should have used this and not run the first race). On the other hand, I orienteer at a lot faster pace than I would on my own.

Sprint #1 - short - Splits

Sprint #2 - short - Splits

Sprint FINAL - short - Splits

Went out on the Hickory Run Farsta, but not planning to do it all. Had the longest 1st leg combination and ended up cutting it short. If I'd had a shorter one, I would have finished 1 leg. Still had the pleasure of the deep stream crossings, but only went in about waist high. Jogged down to the first stream crossing, but walked after that. Woods were thickish, and some areas were weak in details and I didn't trust what was and wasn't mapped.

Tuesday Sep 12

Note
Golf today. My knee is way too sore to consider running. I may not be able to run this week. Day by day, I guess.

Sunday Sep 10

orienteering 1:27:46 [3] *** 5 km (17:33 / km)
shoes: Jalas
Cooler and the brown looked a bit boring, so I tried the green course. My orienteering was fine, but I still didn't move very well in the forest. My reading contact was not right, making reading the map difficult at times. Right foot is about the same, right knee is now worse.

Saturday Sep 9

orienteering 1:07:59 [3] *** 3.8 km (17:53 / km)
shoes: Jalas
Camping weekend at Pawtuckaway. Brown course. Hot, humid, walking a bunch, sweating a lot anyway. Only minor O-errors. I've learned to orienteer here by the water features and big hills until I'm close. Right knee and foot sore. Signed up for the night O, but happily changed my mind (esp. after taking a shower).

Wednesday Sep 6

running 43:44 [3]
shoes: North Face
Usual trip. I seemed to have traded some hip pain for some knee pain with the change in shoes. Tried not to run too hard coming back.

Tuesday Sep 5

Note
Saw a weasel type animal cross the road as I was driving up to the golf course this morning. The regular weasels are too small and have too short a tail for this guy so I'm guessing it was a fisher. It looked all black.
s & s 20:00 [1]

Monday Sep 4

running 44:55 [3]
shoes: North Face
The usual with run/walk for part of the time. I'm going to start doing some groin stretches, not sure if that will make it better, or just more irritated.

Friday Sep 1

running 46:15 [3]
shoes: NF #2
Powerline and return after 18 holes of golf. Groins still sore.
C • golf as warm-up? 2
