Flying Pig Middle Distance. Worst part of the day was the jog to the start. I started near the end so the trail was wet, slippery and of course, muddy. Why didn't they let us use the road? One mistake near #3 where I could see the control, but didn't think it was mine so started to check out another reentrant first. No other problems beside my usual lack of speed and not wanting to get too tired for the rest of the weekend.

Powerline and return. Hip and groin pain continues as well as the foot. I hope I'm not sacrificing my hips to make my feet feel better. It might just take awhile for my body to adjust. But groin pain once kept me from running for a couple of years, so I need to be careful. About the same time up, a bit faster down. Began my run to a chorus of spring peepers. And watched a beautiful fox scratch itself in the sunlight. Beautiful day, 50 deg. and no wind.

Same time up, worked on being smooth coming back which translated to being alittle slower. The three guys on ATVs(stopped at the powerline while I was retying my shoes) looked like they missed the casting call for Deliverance but then so does one of our heating technicans (a nice guy, we talk about his pigs when he comes). We've made it through winter without needing any emergency heating service which is great, we used to see them constantly. The oldest ATV guy waved as they left. No harm. An Owl hooted as I came back.

Another fast time--yippy! Had to work awfully hard esp. on the way back. Groins hurt a lot today, hope I can figure out how to help that. Still windy, muddy at the powerline, but the rest of the trail was nice.

Cold and windy. I'm ready for spring, but I shouldn't complain the trail was hard with no frost heaves. Powerline and return. The usual aches and pains--right knee and foot, left hip.

Got up this morning to go to yoga and do weights, but a migraine hit. Good I didn't go as I lost vision again later. Lots of migraine meds. and many hours later went for a jog. Fine until a couple of hundred meters before the powerline when my lower left leg stopped working right(reduced blood flow?). A massage at the powerline fixed that for the return trip. But while seated I noticed what turned out to be a rabbit strung up in a tree by a plastic tie. The lowest parts--head, forlegs,etc.--were missing. Bear bait? It seemed too high to me, I est. 12 ft. but maybe it was only 10 ft. (forgetting how short I am :))

Rained a lot last night, so the trail was soft and wet. Starting to run with bad form, using my quads too much. If I think about it I do better, but quickly revert when I don't. Powerline and return.

Yesterday I called the doctors office to tell them I was putting the surgery off. Today the nurse called back because the doctor wanted to make sure I understood what a bad deformity I had--ouch! and to watch out for foot ulcers.

Oh, those fast times are rare. About 2 1/2 min. slower going up, but felt weak at the turnaround so had no choice but to take it slow coming back. Felt better by the end. Left hip sore probably from my back still being off.( The little garden cleanup I did yesterday aggrevated it some) Checked the weather before I left. It looked like I had plenty of time before the rain, but it started within 10 min.--if only I'd worn a hat--and it hasn't rained much since. But at least the rain kept the riff-raff off the trail. I only saw Peter out there :)

Delightfully fast up to N. Mt.--6:23(best this year). I knew I couldn't maintain that pace so didn't try, but I was still very happy with 24:00 to the powerline. Of course, I immediately thought about 23:30. (Once upon a time I could do this is under 18 min.--some other lifetime). I usually run midday, but find my best runs are later in the day, like today. 55deg when I ran, wore too much since it had started to rain a bit before I left. Beginning of mud and frost heaves deflating.

Right hip pain for a change along with the right foot. One of the shoe lace holders broke after only 4 days of wear. I'll probably try to fix it rather than mail it back. Felt like I was working awfully hard for the first 7 min. Powerline and return.

I'm hoping a new pair of orthotics with new shoes will keep me away from foot surgery at least for awhile. I'll see, I guess. The combination felt a bit clunky and the shoes were more slippery on the little remaining ice and snow. Powerline and return. Nice day, a bit warmer.
