| Hike again from Reservation Rd. This time up the Robert Frost, continuing up the telephone line (37:44 up). Back the same way (32:34 down) with an occasional jog. Heavier soled shoes made it easier walking down on the rocky trail. Came across two couples walking up. One of the women was having a hard time. As I came down I found them sitting on the trail less than two min. from the top. Told them so, one of the guys said he was no longer believed, but then heard one of the women say she thought they could get up in 5 min. Low blood sugar on the way up made me ask a hiker if she had anything sweet. She shared her dried cherries and we had a nice visit on the picnic table at the top. | ||

| Note | ||
| I feel I should add my golf when I walk, becaue I am so wiped out after. 13 holes with Peter. I see he already mentioned the weird turkey on the 9th hole having a fine sand bath. I was laying up, so I hit a ball before it and after and walked very close. It wasn't a bit concerned. As we headed up to the 10 tee, it was still in the same spot. It was also pecking at the silt, so maybe it was also eating some grass seed, tho it didn't look like it. | ||

| Forest Park Sprints. So much for my plan to take time off. Left hip etc. hurt and it was very slippery in the woods on the steep slopes. Wasn't moving well, but nice courses by Phil. | ||
| orienteering race 49:14 [3] *** 3.5 km (14:04 / km) +115m 12:05 / km | ||

| Sprint #2. This one actually hurt less, except at the end when I fell on my left hip--ugh. Even moving slowly, I could have picked some better route choices on both sprints. | ||

| Trying to take some time off, hopefully to reduce pain. So decided to try hiking. Beautiful spring day. Up Mt. Toby from reservation rd. Jogged and walked in to the telephone line trail(9:50), up it(22:13), back down, then aroud on the Robert Frost trail(33:46). Going up felt okay, but down was too steep to feel comfortable--needed a down elevator. Clearing out some dead plants in the garden after. A humingbird came just as I finished. | ||

| One major mistake on the long leg. Knew where I was coming onto the trail, but saw a bend and like magic thought I was elsewhere. Wouldn't have been too bad because I ran into something obvious quickly, but couldn't wrap my mind around it and took a long time to recover, mostly standing still. I'm finding I make major mistakes after climbing hills even though this one wasn't that bad. Have to learn to be more careful then, my mind must need more oxygen. My leg was about the same as yesterday. So many ticks, we were constantly checking for more all the way home. | ||
Saturday May 20 | ||
| orienteering race 45:45 [3] *** 3.6 km (12:43 / km) +75m 11:31 / km | ||
| shoes: Jalas | ||
| The brown and green courses were the same. The left leg wasn't as bad today, but I also wasn't trying to move as fast. Just a steady pace that didn't stress the leg too much. Orienteering was fine except for leaving #11 when I should have gone through some green, went around and still went through some green. | ||
Friday May 19 | ||
| Event: US Team Trials | ||
| orienteering race 33:58 [3] *** 2.62 km (12:58 / km) +75m 11:20 / km | ||
| shoes: North Face | ||
| That was the time on my watch, don't know the official time. Significant mistake at 4 when I couldn't find the little trail. If I had been alone I'm sure I would have stopped and figured it out, instead ran around the green trying to get in--stupid. My left leg got worse as I ran and eventually I had to walk a lot and occasionally run slowly. Doesn't bode well for the rest of the weekend. | ||
Wednesday May 17 | ||
| running 52:39 [3] | ||
| shoes: North Face | ||
| Went out for a run, but it turned into a slow jog because things just hurt too much. Yuck. At least it had stopped raining. | ||
Saturday May 13 | ||
| Event: Pre-Billygoat Sprints | ||
| orienteering race 24:49 [3] *** 1.8 km (13:47 / km) +50m 12:06 / km | ||
| shoes: Jalas | ||
| Mistakes, esp. 4-5 when I went towards the stream, when I wanted to go towards the trail. Fell down too many times and had difficulty running. Sciatica left leg. | ||
| orienteering 24:18 [3] *** 1.9 km (12:47 / km) +45m 11:26 / km | ||
| shoes: Jalas | ||
| Didn't run as much, so didn't fall. Mistakes were smaller. | ||

| running 44:46 [3] | ||

| A little faster up 23:58 doing the same 3run/1walk. Slow-mo pace coming back with no walking breaks. Left hip/back somewhat worse as well as right foot. | ||
Tuesday May 9 | ||
| running 43:38 [3] | ||
| shoes: North Face | ||
| The usual, after 18 holes of golf. 24:21 up, back still too bad to push it on the way back. Left just as the rain started. | ||
Sunday May 7 | ||
| orienteering race 1:16:59 [3] *** 4.83 km (15:56 / km) +100m 14:27 / km | ||
| shoes: Jalas | ||
| Started well, dumb mistake on the way to #5, and too much time spent near #10 disagreeing with the maping size of a boulder. Not processing information as well as I should. | ||
Saturday May 6 | ||
| Event: West Point A meet | ||
| orienteering race 1:00:03 [3] *** 3.17 km (18:57 / km) +115m 16:02 / km | ||
| shoes: Jalas | ||
| Trouble on #3. I realized I needed to go near the top to avoid coming down in the wrong place, but still got pulled down too soon. I was sure I was right, so even though I could see my control, I didn't think it was mine. The first of several stupid mistakes this weekend. | ||
| orienteering race 31:53 [4] *** 2.88 km (11:04 / km) +100m 9:26 / km | ||
| shoes: Jalas | ||
| Significant mistake to #2, saw someone heading towards the road and went that way before looking at the map. Still took awhile to recover. Several times I thought "why am I doing this :-)", "way too hot." I tried to stop early by mistake, but Peter on the loud speaker told me about 3 more controls I hadn't noticed. Nice not to DQ even if I was ready to be done. Put just my feet in the lake after, felt great. | ||

| Very warm today. Went up okay--3 run/1 walk in 24:20. Decided to do an easy jog back, but after awhile I'm not sure I could have done much better if I'd pushed it. I've been a bit wasted this week and back and foot were definetly hurting on the return. Bunny parts are officially missing. | ||
