What a great day. Why am I not outside enjoying it?

Powerline and return, doing some faster/slower. Groins sore.

Back to trying to do this on a regular basis. Including a few stretches from "Barbie"--holding them for the recommended 2 min. seems like forever, but I'm sure I'll get use to it.

| running 49:50 [3] | |

Up to N. Mt. in time to see Peter go by near the end of the race. Run up to the powerline was against the racers headed down. I said a lot of "looking good." "nice run," etc. Some really appreciated it, others totally ignored it. Wanted to go over to the race finish, but it started to pour about the time I had to make that decision.

Powerline and return late in the day to avoid the rain. Hate the spiderwebs, tho there were fewer.
Wednesday Aug 23 |
| running 49:23 [3] | |
shoes: NF #2
Slow to N. Mt., but I thought it must be because I was clearing out the spiders and spiderwebs--yuck. Still slow up the powerline. Not as bad coming back because I was running with someone between Gunn and our trail (he was planning to run the race this weekend). Makes me think I ought to run with others more often, although it is hard to find runners as slow as I am.

2nd day of US champs. Several 3 min. type mistakes, but good enough to stay in 1st F55. Mostly lost time going over rocks that I could have avoided. Going much slower than yesterday, not breathing hard because I had to stay in contact and also because I couldn't move quickly in the boulders.

1st. day US Champs. 2nd on brown course, 1st F55 (Penny ran green). The good was being 2nd on the course (the other women were pleased that 2 women were at the top of the course), the bad was how far ahead Sharon was (time of 33 min.). No real mistakes, but moving slow and making heavy breathing noise walking up the hills. Very tired after.

Last day in Laramie, first on the brown course mostly because I had smaller or fewer mistakes. Slower route to #2 and checked out boulders too early on the way to #3. Otherwise a pretty clean run.

CSU had five members here and I was the slowest. Seemed like a good reason for a rest day.

Had a pretty clean run, maybe one route choice could have been better. Would be nice to be able to run faster.

Night O. Mistake on #1, was starting toward the right spur, but it was so green I didn't want to go there, so went up the hill to be sure I was correct also going thru junk. In retrospect should have gone down spur to check for the control and then come back to the hill if I was wrong. Only other problem was the juniper that we hadn't had yet and I couldn't really see the green color on the map at night, so went thru too much of it. Hard to see any paths thru it as well. 2nd on F55, Penny D. first by 3 min.

Not a great day of orienteering, too many mistakes. First one on 3 wasn't too bad, but #6 went up the wrong spur and took forever to recover as I went the wrong way first. Had more than enough info. to make a quick correction, but these days after going uphill I sometimes don't think straight. I also think I forgot about the 1:15000 map there. Brushing against the sage irritated my bruise, but I still was able to jog a lot. It's feeling worse the day after.
Saturday Aug 12 |

Bruise was itching this morning--good sign, healing! Very windy, a little rain, felt cold so started with a jacket since I didn't know if I could jog. Jogging was okay, still a little uncomfortable esp. on the downhill. Walked many uphills because I'm out of shape. By the end the opposing hip hurt most, but I was very pleased to be able to jog. Jacket could have come off as soon as I started jogging, but I waited until the first big uphill on the way to #3. My feet stayed dry on the three stream crossings.

A little faster walk today. Definitly some improvement on the leg, walking a little more normally. Didn't go out in the afternoon.

Forgot to stop my watch, but that is about the right time. Hobbled around and after the first control decided I didn't need to punch. At the first control people who were on their 2nd loop were punching--a little dangerous for us slow pokes. Later I just waved at those high flying controls from a distance.

Thought I'd try to walk a few controls to see if my leg would ease at all. Managed to finish the course at a very slow walk. Flat was best, downhill worst. Hope I can walk a little faster next time.

Started out on the trail Peter took, Walker Tr. above Boulder, with the idea of turning back after awhile. Down to the river and then up the steep rise on the other side. There were lots of rock and log steps built in. Jumped up on one rock step, slipped on some loose gravel, fell, landed all my weight on the outside of my right quad on the edge of a sharpe rock step. Oh so painful. Oh how I would like to take that misstep back. I've had a deep quad bruise before, so I know it takes a long time to get well. Not a good start to the 1000 day trip. I continued on up the slope and then had a slow walk back. But at least I could get back. Made me worry about Peter. He says he trys to be careful.

A little tennis and swimming. As I'm unlikely to either again this year I won't log them.
