Full set of warm up routine. I did a longer WU to make sure I was ready

This was a good race, absolutely loved it, even though I was so worried about it.
It was a pedestrian start with a 72/73 first 400m. (600m in about 1:45).
First 1km was in about 2:54 so a very slow affair. Surafel took it on going into the end of the 1st km. He started to knock out much faster laps. I stayed with him and matched his moves fast (looking back this was surging way to fast and took the kick out of my legs at the end). I kept in 2nd the rest of the race and the pace wound up untill we had a front pack of about 6. I made my move with 800m to go and took to the front. We dropped the rest of the field and had 3 of us Myself, Musson and Chris Olley. Musson moved down the back straight with 300 to go and Olley passed me with 200 to go. Legs were swimming in lactate and I tried to hang on. Finished in 3rd. Last 1km was in 2:37.
I played it tactically naively and I would have been much better off sitting back more relaxed and matching moves slowly in order to save my kick and conserve energy. Learning all the time and even though I am super happy with 3rd I am disappointed.
If it was a much faster race (no messing about in the first 800m) I am sure I would have ran so much faster as well!
