JK Relay, Pwll Du, 1st leg
Pretty slow to the first control, the legs felt even worse than expected after the long. Crap route choice to 5 losing the best part of a minute, then didn't read the map carefully enough at 6 and lost another 30 secs along with the pack (minus Murray and Sander who were long gone). Took the around route to 8 and think I gained some time, but then misread the contour detail in the circle and any chance of catching the pack back up was lost. With Barrable from here to the finish and we were going well, pulling back a bit of time. It wasn't enough though and, despite Ben having a stormer on 2nd leg, Aidan had Peter breathing down his neck and only a minute gap on Kris/Schorah/Johnson who eventually caught him.

Can't say I'm a big fan of first leg. I struggle to navigate well when I'm on my own, let alone with a dozen other runners distracting me.

JK Long, Llangynidr
Same as yesterday really, except the size of the mistakes scaled with the course length. 2 mins at 1 and 5 (!) mins at 9 along with quite a lot of banana-ing inbetween. Really enjoyed the runnability through 11 and 12, then straight back into the heather. Dived off my route choice to 13 to hop on the Tullie train, but disembarked prematurely thinking I'd spotted some more runnable terrain. I hadn't, and I lost them. Won't make that mistake again. Fine through the mine workings which were a bit naff, then just steady from there to the finish trying to save my legs a bit for the relay.

Overtaken by a couple of people on cumulative time but pulled up 2 places thanks to mp's/dnf's, so as with the middle not an awful result but a fairly poor performance.

JK Middle, Merthyr Common
Careless with the compass to 2 and 3, saw Peter Bray coming into the latter as I was leaving it. Surprised to still be ahead of him at 9, despite a small miss at 6. Then we massively screwed up 10, aiming off the wrong hill. Still lead through the next few which went well, then Peter took off down the hill. Stuck with him and we made another mistake at 18 (poor compass again), then OK after that to the finish. Pretty poor performance, but not a disaster.

JK Sprint
Despite working out where 1 was in the start lane I screwed it up whilst faffing with folding/orientating my map, losing 15secs or so. Otherwise no disasters just the odd hesistation. Ended up at the wrong end of a closely bunched pack of 4, but still a decent result.

Devon training on Holne Moor from last Saturday. Warmed up by jogging round the Attackpoints 2 course.

Attackpoints 1 course on a brown only map. One mistake on 3 where I wasn't being careful enough, noticed quickly though and corrected it.

Orienteering 19:30 [3] 3.2 km (6:06 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 Oroc 340

'Contrasts' course in the mine area. Brown only map. Really technical, especially without any flags. Stopped at a few controls (3, 4, 6) to check I was in the right place, but otherwise navigating smoothly if not particularly quickly.
