Run 2:19:00 [3] 26.0 km (5:21 / km)

Aiming for a proper long run, as much to give me mental confidence before the Flinders weekend as for its physical properties. Took some time to get going but moving quite nicely by the half-hour (without ever being completely comfortable - my Achilles was not 100% throughout), mostly along the Yarra and then Gardiners Creek. Seemed to handle the climb through Smiths Dell pretty well, but a couple of kilometres later my back threw one of its periodic wobblies - unusual for this to happen 18k into a run (normally when it's going to be a problem it's obvious in the first 10 minutes). At this point I decided to head straight for home - still 8k away - and keep open the option of doing an extra loop if it improved. It didn't improve - I thought the Chandler bridge stairs might finish it off properly, but it at least coped with those. Was still moving OK and maintaining pace, though, so it didn't seem to be impeding progress, just making things unpleasant. Had started aiming for 2.30, but in the end was happy to settle for what I did.

Take-home message: I'm hopeful of having the endurance to cope in two weeks if the various intermittently troublesome bits of my body cooperate, but that may be a significant if.

Flaked out for most of the afternoon, an experience which I expect I will repeat in two weeks. Might have underestimated how much fluid I'd lose on a day which was a little warmer than forecast (though still only low 20s) - had dropped 3-4 kilos compared with a couple of days ago.

Spotted a street-O control along the Outer Circle trail near the Mont Albert Road bridge, but subsequent online discussion suggests it isn't one of ours (might be something to do with Camberwell Grammar, which is nearby).
