Dragging the extended commute ride out of the cupboard for the first time in a while. Riding up a couple of proper (if short) hills was a bit of a shock to the system, but settled down reasonably well after that. The southeast isn't the best direction to approach the city from on a bike at the moment, though - the paths under the Swan Street bridge are closed for works (which were supposed to be finished by the end of July, but of course they're running late) and the detours are convoluted.
Saw an article last night about how, in New Zealand, election advertising billboards rendered redundant by Labour's late leadership change are being
recycled to insulate houses. We might get the chance to try this closer to home soon - the week when you've plastered the city with posters showing your face and proclaiming how tough you'll be on crime probably isn't the best week to be sprung dining with Melbourne's most notorious (alleged) mafioso.
