running warm up/down 15:00 [3] 3.0 km (5:00 / km)
shoes: x-talon212

orienteering race 1:27:00 [5] 12.0 km (7:15 / km)
shoes: x-talon212

Was feeling great at the start. was pumped, new I had a good race in me. started off well, getting through the low vis stuff well to the first one, cruising through the controls after that. caught lazydave and eon at #4, and dropped them when they missed #5 a bit. Running up to #6 I fell over and when I got up, no SI on my finger! searched for what felt like 4 minutes but in reality I have no idea how long it was. I kept thinking about how sometimes I carry a spare one in my pocket, and how at WOC I'd made a wriststrap for my SI/emit but had been a bit hurried when I made it (before long qual) so had never finished it. I also thought how if I kept going, using manual punches, they would disqualify me even though manual punching was the norm for so long.
In the end I gave up. Eon, (and presumably Lazydave and simon87) had long since passed me. I got to #6, punched it, and made the decision that whatever happened I was going to hammer this course. I was going to run so damn fast, they'd need to remap kangaroo crossing after I was done with it. straight to #7 and then up the hill to #8, I saw mum strolling on the spur. Thought for five seconds, then yelled out to her, and grabbed her SI (thanks mum). nailed #8 and caught bruce, and nailed #9. suddenly my race had changed again, but decided I wasn't going to run conservatively. evidently my adrenaline was running out and I had to rely on Bruce to get me to #10.
after that I just went straight. I didn't have time for tracks. my legs were cramping climbing up to #11, had a gel and caught eon again at #12. Smashed it after that, with about 45seconds lost at #15 and maybe 5 seconds at #19.
after all that, we went out to find my SI. it had fallen between two rocks, about a meter from where I'd fallen (but I had misjudged where i fell during the race). Went back and downloaded, and sure enough my splits looked really good up until that point.
Don't seem to have much luck at the moment.

running warm up/down 15:00 [3] 3.0 km (5:00 / km)

orienteering race 45:35 [3] 4.5 km (10:08 / km)
shoes: inov-8 OROC 280

bad race.
started off a bit too eager, and made a bad mistake on 3, right after catching Todd (gotta fix that). then exiting 3 I hit my head really hard on a branch (it's got a nice lump on it, and was pretty bloody). this made me really angry and ran hard, catching acejase and some others. but those controls were a bit easier, and when I hit the trickier stuff I had bad few controls.
Dissapointed, but not too annoyed. Good to see a Eon and Shep with good runs.

didn't feel like intervals today so did lizzie's bush orienteering maze thingo. just tried to be super accurate, which was hard in some of the vague areas especially with the weird scale on that map, and the lack of real termite mounds.
got back to realise I'd missed a control! that's 2 theoretical misspunches in 3 runs.

running hills 22:30 [4] 4.3 km (5:14 / km)
shoes: Nike Lunarglide

couldn't find the running crew for some reason so once I'd found Max we went and did some TQ hills. 10 efforts of 40seconds. I was so hungry I was feeling dizzy and max was getting over a cold so it wasn't the most strenuous but I liked it.
leg speed was definitely the rate limiter, not strength or lungs.
