Running race (Icy-8 8-hour Trail Ultra) 7:46:37 [2] 47.3 mi (9:52 / mi) +2561ft 9:23 / mi
shoes: Inov-8 Trailroc 245 (2nd pair)

Good first race of the season at the Icy-8 at Lake Anna State Park, VA. 2 loops to choose from, 4.7mi or 8.0mi and it's how far can you go (completed laps) in the 8 hours.

Cold start at 23F, but it warmed up to about 49F, so I shed clothes as the day wore on.

I stuck to the 4.7mi loop, hoping for 10, but it turns out it was actually about 4.9mi, and I did a crap job of pacing for the first 5 laps, so chose discretion after 8 laps and did an 8mi lap. It was the right choice, as I wouldn't have finished two.

Plans went well, food and hydration was right ... I might have eeked out the 47mi (actual: 49+mi) if I hadn't had to add another sock layer after 6 laps (I think?), which added 3 minutes to my total ... it was that tight!

hughmac3 did incredibly well while suffering some GI issues ... didn't make his hoped-for numbers, but persevered in adversity. First ULTRA!! Great job, dad!

Pics up on Facebook at some point.

Running (2 x Cemetery Laps) 24:29 [3] 2.75 mi (8:54 / mi) +147ft 8:28 / mi
shoes: Adidas adiZero Hagio 2

Great week to taper, since I didn't have the time/energy to do much after Sunday night's fiasco at work. 4 hours sleep whacked my Monday and Tuesday good.

The good news is I felt stellar today. 51F and very humid felt so nice, and the trail around the cemetery was surprisingly un-muddy. Fingers crossed on that front for the Icy-8!! No aches, pains, anything. Wanted to go faster and longer. Excellent!
