High O long course with Mounty at Dinner Plain.

Bit of back and forth with Oskar and Sam on the first couple of legs then we got a gap on the climb up to 3, lost a bit of time through the bush between 4 & 5 which saw us all back together and just ahead of Ewan & Nea who caught us on the climb up to 6.

We got a bit of a gap on the way to 7 but lost it in the circle, coming up from underneath a hefty climb while they spotted us at the control so avoided that mistake. Away clear again to 8 & 9 but saw the Shinglers on road out of 10 so had a few minutes on them here. Some tough slogging through terrain on these legs.

Blew our lead on 11, losing around 10 mins, didn’t leave the track soon enough and ended up too low down, extra clearings and dodgy contours made everything fit but we were hunting in the wrong place.

Eventually climbed up to it with the elder Shinglers and headed down to 12 seeing both emus and the younger Shinglers enroute with a comfortable lead they took to the finish, stretched by Mounty and I both cramping towards the end.

Fun doing a long O in pairs, Mountain Marathon-esque but minus the full packs!

Made it to dinner plain, 4 hours late, after a couple of hours baking at the side of the road north of Albury when Wombi broke down. Taxi to Wodonga where Mounty had kindly waited for us, before the rest of the journey into the hills.

After all that, wasn’t too bothered about running, but the lovely AWOC folk were insistent, so headed out for a bush sprint around the village. Fun course, but rolled right crankle within 500m of the start at the first hint of terrain, and hobbled round the rest. So a very consistent result with the rest of the day’s proceedings.

ahr:150 max:181 shoes: ARC'TERYX Norvan LD 2 (Lime)

Long hilly run over Shaws ridge over to Grose Head south then continued down to the river, back up to the main track and then down to the Mountain Avenue gate. From there a long drag back up and over Grose Head south, before returning via Blue Gum.

Put in some effort on the hills and was pretty strong on the early ones, but struggled on the return from the gate when it was heating up. Almost out of water again (2l). 0.12pp/km
