Note

"Puppet-master" text-O with Gail R. as the runner. I was on the platform, texting her where to go to punch at the pennants. Lilght rain made it extremely hard to text, but at least we had good reception. Better than Phil and I had last year, which was something like a bad cell phone company ad: "Can you hear me now? What did you say?"

My directions to the more northern pennant were spot on. My directions to the more southern pennant were 1 row too far west, but, fortunately, that was not a totally-wasted route to get to the desired location for Gail.

Great fun seeing O-friends from far and wide.

trail running race 10:00 [3] 1.2 km (8:20 / km)
shoes: BA17

Corn Maze sprint. Lots of running, not much decision making or interpreting the maze.

trail running race 33:20 [2]

Corn Maze "classic", which felt like a Long because of all the long dog-legging to return to a point at which one could make a decision.

Cycling race 2:40:00 [2] 40.0 km (4:00 / km)

Jim's Lexington Wanderings, on (road) bike. Road bike was an excellent choice. There were only 1 or two places where the surface was unpaved, and some of them were smooth. Only a couple of rooty or broken pavement stretches that made me dismount.

I had planned the route based on about 10km per hour, figuring in getting off course. But this time I highlighted the intended course, so it was much easier to determine whether I was executing properly. I was off my intended course only a couple of times, and only briefly.

The estimated speed of progress was too small, so I had extra time at the end, but maybe not a full 3 hours of energy. I had 1 Gu at about 45 minutes in. I added a couple of controls that I had not planned to get. But because I had stupidly only highlighted and brought with me the left map half, I couldn't see a very accurate picture of what was just over the fold. Maybe I could have reached a couple more valuable controls, but I'm pretty happy with the course I rode.

Start-37-55-35-45-47-89-57-79-93-41-31 (Gu)- 51-81-43-53-83-91-61-50 (missed the turn for 75) 97-75-65-59-77-85-Finish.
