Running 11:41 [2] 2.58 km (4:32 / km)
we had to rush down a bit, but kept off the back cos I wasn't keen to over-exert, turned out we had plenty of time.
Running 17:27 [5] 5.0 km (3:29 / km)
shoes: barefoot
St. Andrew's chariots of fire beach 5km
Mostly just for uni teams I think.
Went barefoot after much debate. Hard to tell if it made a difference to the race, but my feet are shredded now afterwords, 4 decent blisters to work against. The hobble is real.
Quick start, but kept the pace high to try keep with the leaders to halfway, while the wind was behind us. Clipping nicely, but the front 3 started to gap me a little just before the turn around, gained back a little in the rougher puddles section, but not a lot.
Turned into the wind and the hope of drafting was gone, wasn't close enough to get back, and it was fierce out. After a while Pierre came up to me, and we could work together a little, defintiely got a wee bit of drafting. We got past 2 buckos, but first was miles out. We had dropped the 2 boys, but one came back strong in the finish to put up a sprint. I made him work, but he had me in the end.
Finished in 3rd.
We weren't far from the team gold, as Liam was just a little back too, but Aberdeen had serious numbers.
Really gruelling 5km. Tough as.
Running 28:39 [1] 5.01 km (5:43 / km)
Hobble back, then a lap with Liam, and a little more by myself.
