Yellow Dog Yoga 30:00 [1]
floor & standing stuff, a bit more yoga than recently, still lotsa RoM, remedial strength for arms, tummy, butt...have been trying out this bicycle thing for tummy as my theory is that most types of situps are too easy, bicycle is nice and hard, it kills me off pretty quick, so I'm gonna add it in. Finished w some general wanging around & hula moves since Adiemus' In caelum fero is pretty energetic !
YDY is good cuz it gives me a (small infrequent?) window to be less aggressive &, well, OK, adversarial towards my body - most of the time I am simply having to ignore a large portion of all the whinging & yipping that the body gives off, its not so hostile a relationship as in the past but its still not real friendly most of the time - the A makes for not a very comfortable body to live in, & I've found the best (interim?) working metaphor for a long time was to just be beating the body into doing what I needed it to do (I'm leaving out all the diametrically opposed highly sensitive body-listening that goes on at the same time, to hear properly what each pain means. But then you ignore it most o' the time...) Anyhow, YDY is nice cuz I DO formally listen and take care & am kind to my body, & sometimes I even imagine that we are doing something together that is fun & graceful, which is very rare in the A body.
I reread this & am reminded that a disjunct between body & self is a commonly observed (sometimes unhealthy) coping strategy in arthritics & I can certainly see it in the language here, heh.

walking 50:00 [1] 2.5 km (20:00 / km)
train stn to go to Value Village - found a kimono for D for $4 - his has worn out on the butt, but I can make a sash for the new one out of some of it, and maybe a furoshiki out of other bits.
Cool overcast alternates w bits of hot sunshine - bought a naughty grilling mag for 20% off & devoured it - grilled pineapple, mmmmm! an unusually citified walk around the block, sat by the grocery for a bit, down the creek forest path, sat at the rocks for a bit more.
Cut up a real pepper for chili, hands finally stopped stinging half an hour ago! back to Mr. Tabasco Bottle for me!! yow!! gonna make a cornbread to go with it, cilantro & chopped tomatoes, cheddar bits, some organic yogurt...maybe a mango.

Wednesday Jul 2

walking 48:00 [1] 2.4 km (20:00 / km)
morning walk again, never seen such a year for flowers - I counted today, & saw at least 30 different types of wild/feral flowers, at least 10 clover/lupine/bean types, & almost as many daisy types, & then a grab-bag of convolvulus, buttercup, foxglove, poppies, blackberry... saw literally millions of blackberry & clover blossoms, whole fields, km of blackberry hedges covered w flowers. And now on CBC they're playing Nigel K & that lush, lush Summer by Vivaldi which is like the soul of all those flowers!
oh, plus we saw dogs too....
quite weary from several poor nights of sleep, too hot for G to sleep in her usual crate by my bed so she is restless, & poor D is coughing & restless too. ah well, lets try to clean up the apt, its nice & cool this morning....
walking 36:00 [1] 1.8 km (20:00 / km)
in the woods down to the Ledgestone level & back up, cooler but humid. G was doing a Princess Poo thing & made the mistake of leaping wildly over a barricade of logs & WAY down into the ravine, (Totally Disappearing whoa!) & then freaking out & squeaking for help. So Ms. Arthritis creaks cautiously down the (increasingly slopey) slope thru the waist-hi super dense bracken, peek over the logs cautiously whoa, G is really really down there & seriously blocked in by bracken. drag one log off to one side, other log too big, G still way down there & panicky, "stand gypsy stand!" and she braces up standing stock still. Good. OK, I can move the log a bit so I end up heaving one end up just a bit, yanking some of last years copious dead bracken from around my side of it, & then holler "hike gypsy hike!" & she totally knows what she has to do, she jams the pointy end of her face into the dead bracken on her side, turns on the 4-wheel drive, & scrabbles fiercely up the steep slope under the log & thru the dead stuff, comes out kinda... windswept & totally looking like a forest floor all dead leaves & a bit bug-eyed... and she didnt even poo. that happened later.

Tuesday Jul 1

walking 50:00 [1] 2.5 km (20:00 / km)
morning walk - cooler & very pretty - over to Taylor via the daycares & the primary school path, doodling around the park a bit, then over via the parkway, cut thru woods at head of stairmaster to bikepath, met Jack & Tisha, back up to home.
Then dimsum with Alf at the new place, dropped off some siumai & big veg dumplings, waterchestnut jellies (OK those are for me), sticky rice for D, then fooled around at metrotown w Alf to p/u his glasses, more cold remedies for D, checked out T&T fastfood place it is awesome, vietnamese, teensy fried fish, korean, japanese, classic chinese hot-table, tripe, chicken feet, pig parts, seaweed...yikes!
walking 26:00 [1] 1.3 km (20:00 / km)
afternoon walk - over to Taylor, sat in the sun & got a bit too into Mansfield Park (I think she's gonna marry Edmund) so when we got home it was 5:23 & we had to go out for thai food & a movie (Hulk) instead of me making dinner, so sad!

Monday Jun 30

walking 24:00 [1] 1.2 km (20:00 / km)
afternoon walk, still pretty warm so we are staying in the shade - wandered down to the parkway & over to the bikepath then up to the rocks to meet dogs - met Bao the Chow & Cookie the white mop, then Ugo came along (a 3 mo. bulldog-mastiff cross as big as G already) - G likes the first two dogs but doesnt know what to do w Ugo- he just walks over her, she goes flying, she does a submission display which again he just tromples on & then lays on her and licks her in the most offensively friendly fashion possible, then when she tries to get away he chews her hind legs; its so nice to see her getting some of her "I'm socially oblivious" medicine back, heheheh... then Ugo started trying to lay some of that on Cookie, she took off like an arrow into the road & Ugo after her & the owners hollering after both of them, so I sat there laughing hahahaha, then I look around & MY dog is sneaking off in the opposite direction towards the woods to escape Ugo also, so then I have to run off hollering into the woods. ahahaha. So don't laugh too soon is the moral of that story, check YOUR dog first. Luckily G was too hot to move fast, all she wanted to do was not be near Ugo anymore...
Yellow Dog Yoga 20:00 [1]
to pass the time & distract myself while doing home infusion I worked thru the first 6 pp of my Yoga for Glands book from sis-in-law - face & neck things, surprisingly challenging co-ordination of movement & breathing.

Sunday Jun 29

walking 48:00 [1] 2.4 km (20:00 / km)
morning walk, started out perfectly gorgeous but then the girl & the dog both became hot & a bit cranky by the end of it. Met a white mop, two pom's, assorted other dogs, & Tyson & Hendrix. No-one at the dog-park. A wedding party at Mayfair when we got back, so cute, all pink ribbons & pompoms on the white cars! Delicious squishy-kibbles & an iced latte when we got back.
BBQ today - decided on spicey italian sausages sliced in half lengthwise and then skewered with chunks of blanched onion & figs soaked in sherry (in a sort of woven-rug look - triple skewers as the um warp & sausages as woof or whatever, and the scrumptious bits all in between), very mediterranean. And naan. Very...middle-eastern. Got some funky long skinny tomatoes from SPUD plus a zucchini which I will slice longwise and grill too, sesame seed oil & mesquite shaker, maybe... along w the BBQ Banana Split of course...
walking 10:00 [1] 0.5 km (20:00 / km)
additional wandering at the park to pick a place for the BBQ, fun to see everyone out w frisbees, kids in the playground, volleyballers, tennis courts full, dogs running around trying to eat sausages...stayed out almost to sunset.

Saturday Jun 28

Note
slept:8.5
slept well, yay! listened to most of the 64446 concert from Hyde Park last night, very interesting. D enjoyed Critical Mass ride, lost his voice, is that funny or what!?
for BBQ this weekend I've invented the BBQ'ed Banana Split - brush 3 peeled bananas (for 2 people) w toasted sesame oil, toss on grill to see if they stick. After a bit, slice longwise and pop onto two sesame-oiled & brown-sugared tinfoils, close, & bake gently on the side for a bit. Then top w one organic Denman's chocolate bar previously processed as follows - melt, mix w a Tb of butter, split & form into (1) tiny frozen logs of chocolate-butter swirled w chunky peanutbutter (2) frozen chocolate-butter coins caked on top w toasted walnut bits. Dennis said he couldnt decide which would be better w/out actually tasting them....uh-huh...(in case that seems like a lotta work, yer not getting it - its just an excuse to smear chocolate all over the kitchen and then...uh, Gypsy can lick it up, yeah...)
The bananasplit reference comes from the banana of course, but also the state-changes induced by juxtaposition of hot & cold elements - stuff melts and melds deliciously in both cases...theoretically at least.
walking 20:00 [1] 1 km (20:00 / km)
inordinately gorgeous today when I walked over to grocery for a few bits & pieces. dog-walk around 4pm, pretty hot, dog lazy, went via shade to rocks and visited with Weezy & Abby, met Shelly coming out of the building when we went back inside....
