| With most tarmac still a deathtrap I managed to get a decent session in in the park. Curiously, many of the paths in the park had been gritted while the pavements in surrounding residential streets were like sheets of wet glass. If anyone can see sense in this, please let me know.
Anyway, I ran steadily for ~15 minutes, avoiding anything steep or icy. Then put in a couple of steady uphill effort before a set of three fast 2 min loops on grass (the last one flat out). Finished with a couple of steep hill sprints and a very careful jog home. |
Tuesday Dec 2 |
 | Swimming 30:00 [3] | |
| |
| With Glasgow covered in black ice I didn't see much point in trying to do any running, so it was a strictly indoor training day. Hope this doesn't last.
For once the pool felt so warm and toasty I didn't particularly want to get out. |
 | Circuits 20:00 [2] | |

| Hard work on the arms after swimming. |
Monday Dec 1 |
 | Running 25:00 [3] | |

| Another triumph for First Scotrail - this time it was a signal failure...or a points failure...depends which set of announcements you believe. Anyway, whatever the cause I ended up getting home 45 minutes later than expected and so missed another Monday night session.
As it turned out this was probably a good thing. I had intended doing something reasonable strenuous, but the most I could muster was a few sprints and steady uphill efforts. The icy paths and pavements didn't help, but I basically just felt crap - not sure if it's another cold or just general overwork and tiredness. I guess this is going to have to be an easy week. |
Sunday Nov 30 |
 | Running 35:00 [2] | |
| |
| Apparently this was the coldest November day in Glasgow for over 20 years - the top temperature was -2. It felt like it too, so I decided not to risk getting freezing fog into my lungs by doing anything too tough. Instead I had a nice plod down to the Clyde and past the Beeb and Science Centre, before returning via Yorkhill and the park. Slipped on the ice a few times, which was another reason not to push things.
Even allowing for today, this was a good week's training, especially bearing in mind that Monday was a blank day. |
Saturday Nov 29 |
 | Running 1:15:00 [3] | |
| |
| Nice run out in the sun: Spiers Wharf - canal - Ruchill - canal - Dawsholm - river - home. Started steady but was on a decent pace after the first 25 minutes or so. Alternated between feeling great and wanting to stop and sit down, apart from the last 15 minutes which just felt like hard work all the way. |
