Long runs on hard on the body anyways. Cumulative fatigue and what not.

If the 5k is run quick, its another lactic session.

My point being, recovery is important. By all means smash you body, but the gains are in the recovery - assuming you've smashed your body enough ;)

I have two non running days in the week plus no real long run (wed ~10k and howth is only 8) 5k is a tempo but not at the limit and the total kmage is about 40k. You have easy weeks and you have hard weeks. I only did about 30kms last week. All of which was on grass or trails.

People train differently. I know what works for me and what doesn't. If I'm feeling shit I'll cut it down.
