Discussion: Meos - is there a way to recover results?

Hi folks

We ran a score event using Meos and had some issues which we realised we had too late.

What happened during the event all the results were printed on receipt printer as usual except actual score was not shown. Also, results were not displayed on the screen. Another anomaly was that when people finished it printed results on somebody else’s name (Colin Price was the most popular name).

All this was something I could not make sense of. Maybe except for the fact that Colin Price initially registered all the sticks he purchased on his name. Anyways, we ended up with no results recorded. I believe what happened was that SportIdent was set in the wrong mode – so it was reading and printing results but it was not linked/recorded against actual event. I searched PC but could not find the file with the results. If my theory correct I suspect there are at least two ways to recover results:

1) If there is a file in temp folder somewhere where read outs were dumped. If it’s then we could use it and import from this file. Any ideas? I searched but could not find.
2) Read all punches from SI units and compile them into result list. Is it possible/ doable? Not desirable and time consuming but if we don’t have another choice…

Any other ways or ideas you can think of? If N2 is doable is there some document on how to do this?

Kind orienteering regards,

Dmitry

Have you tried downloading splits from the red box?

Thanks Igor, I will try !

All SI sticks sold by Colin Price have his name programmed in as default. If results are being printed direct from SI stick Colin's name will be on the printout. If the printing is via a program, like MEOS, the program should link the stick number to the persons name.

The name in the stick can be changed.

I had issues printing results from OE Score 2003 on Friday because if printed by class, it wouldn't display points but if by course, it was fine. Couldn't upload to Eventor either because the two programs are too stupid to communicate with each other (can only get results from OE Score 2003 with .csv file, which Eventor doesn't relate to). Ended up doing an Excel spreadsheet and importing that way.

Hi Dmitry,

I wrote a program a few years ago to rescue SI score events. Its on SourceForge at:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/siscorerescue/

I only used it once and I suspect it may not handle 10 & 11 cards, but I think I could probably get it working if I can get the data from the master unit (use SI Config to get a csv). It will need that anyway and some sort of lookup to resolve SI numbers to names (looks as though it can use a number of the existing such databases.

Let me know how you go.

Why are Sydney clubs addicted to Score events - just lazy planning ?

@tRicky - we (NSW) did raise a suggestion with the Eventor guys about a way to include score data in XML results, having consulted with some of the results software developers (even the OE guy) about creating a de facto standard, but its gone nowhere.

The IOF XML is extendible but the specification doesn't include definitions that will cover score events.

Oh well, it gave me something to do on Saturday night between cleaning up after the score event, eating (waiting for) our meals at the pub, sorting prizes and not sleeping before the two events the following day. I really needed something else to add to fill in the time.

At this stage I'm just hoping one of the two setters collected the two controls they left out on course on the Friday!

It'd be good if we could get this resolved since we have four score events during our summer series (first one is a month away) and I had hoped to at least be able to upload those to Eventor easily rather than typing all results manually as we presently do with our scatter events.

There is a fudge where you paste tab separated columns into the alternate Eventor upload and use the column for club to hold the score.

I have (another) tool here:
http://sportident.itsdamp.com/oe2eventor.php

That converts from regular OE2003 to Eventor tab-delimted format.
I think I could easily knock up one for OEScore if I knew the format. If we can cancel our event next week, I may even have time to do it - can you send me a copy of teh OEScore csv output ?

This is how the upload looks. I used the organisation column for the score as you mentioned although I had to create a new class in Eventor called 'Score' because that was what I called it in the Excel spreadsheet I filled out. The original was by age category but I couldn't get OE to produce a 'by class' list with points so I just had it 'by course' (of which there was one) and fudged it in Eventor. The distance is made up (I did ~21km) but not really significant.

I'll send over the .csv files (which I didn't use because I couldn't open them in a readable format). Would be good if we could have more columns in Eventor for 'Points', 'Penalty' and 'Net points' but we work with what we have.

The guy who ran the 2014 World Rogaine Champs in South Dakota might be able to help.

OK, now I understand your desire to get the results published :)

Got files thx.

The 'by class' is kind of irrelevant now because it was just a warm up event and almost no-one took it seriously.

tR - just checking...did you have the classes assigned to courses in OE?
Oct 18, 2016 3:41 PM #
tRicky:
There was only one course (utilising all the controls) and they were all assigned to it.
Oct 18, 2016 4:51 PM #
Sandy:
But you still need everyone assigned to that one class and then that class assigned to a course, right?
Oct 18, 2016 6:15 PM #
vmeyer:
Yes, and the class to course assignment is also where the time limit and penalty is applied.
Oct 19, 2016 1:11 AM #
tRicky:
Everyone was entered into an age class and all classes had been assigned to the one course. I don't know why the 'by class' results did not produce scores and yet 'by course' did. Maybe it was something that needed to be adjusted in the setup, but it's something that'll need to be fixed before our next score event in November. The time penalties worked just fine.

Would be happy to take a look at the event, if you want to send me the backup...

OK tRicky, there is now a conversion page:
http://sportident.itsdamp.com/oescore2eventor.php

Works if everyone has the same class:
http://eventoraustralia.orientering.se/Events/Resu...

I quite like the outcome, I'll probably put that into the stuff we do here for Summer Series.

Leigh has the wrong SI number in Eventor and since I was out on course, no-one at the download knew how to fix it so he recorded a N/R. Plus he didn't punch the start.
