Where is everyone? An awesome WOC is going on and there is virtually no commentary or attention over here. Is there a private viewing party I wasn't invited to?

We're all waiting for the video to load...
Jul 6, 2017 12:48 PM #
O-ing:
Pretty good coverage here (NBN). Thierry was clinical, straight and no mistakes...

Somehow I don't think its the ISP in Australia that is the bottle-neck.

Nev-Monster:
One Emily Kemp is starting soon.

I've had no real connection issues either today or for the long, and my internet connection is nothing special.

I have to admit, when I saw the map, I also thought of the Ukraine middle, and all that implied. Boom! No dogs, I presume.
Jul 6, 2017 1:43 PM #
O Joy:
Go Emily!!!
Jul 6, 2017 1:45 PM #
Nev-Monster:
There's a North American currently sitting in top 5 at a WOC. This should never get old!
Jul 6, 2017 1:46 PM #
Hammer:
Looks like a top 5 and maybe another 4th for Emily. Woohoo!
Jul 6, 2017 1:48 PM #
backwoods:
wooooooweeeeeee!!!
Jul 6, 2017 1:49 PM #

Great second half of the course from Emily! What an impressive result - top 5 for the second year in a row!!
Jul 6, 2017 1:55 PM #
BorisGr:
Also, really cool to see Marianne Andersen make such a successful comeback after years of injuries.

Big things come in small packages!!
Jul 6, 2017 2:19 PM #
cwalker:
Yay, thrilled for Emily! Also looks like a great result from Damian, 45th!
Jul 6, 2017 2:19 PM #
ndobbs:
Average height of top-6?

Great performances by all of them.
Jul 6, 2017 2:27 PM #
j-man:
Damian doesn't count as a small package. Good running!
Jul 6, 2017 2:39 PM #
Becks:
Oh man, the GBR girls have done really well so far. I might have to try to spend my last day at Yale mostly watching the relay...has the coverage started to behave yet?
Jul 6, 2017 2:41 PM #
gordhun:
Good one Emily! We are all looking forward to seeing you in August.
Jul 6, 2017 2:50 PM #
Cristina:
Becks, I had no trouble with the feed today.

Emily is a rockstar.
Jul 6, 2017 3:18 PM #
Hammer:
Emily IS a rockstar!! hope her injury has healed.

I've had absolutely no issues with the coverage and i'm pleased that none of our sports best have been skipping up the finish line this year.
Jul 6, 2017 3:28 PM #
j-man:
Skipping up the finish line? I need to look into what you mean.
Jul 6, 2017 3:35 PM #
Hammer:
Becks will explain it better but last years announcer didn't have a clue what was going on and often said the athletes were skipping up the finish line. Seriously though i think the coverage has been great this year but i realize that is very unAP to be happy with IOF and organizers. ;-)

So after Thierry's gold is he the best ever? Who are the top five men and women of all time?
Jul 6, 2017 3:37 PM #
graeme:
There were rocks?
Jul 6, 2017 3:48 PM #
yurets:
Remember this terrain from "Ilves" 1985/86, very tough with low visibility.
Map looks very arrogant, I'd say un-American; trails on the map have no names, same with the swamps.
Jul 6, 2017 4:40 PM #
bendover:
Why would trails on an orienteering map need names?
Jul 6, 2017 4:50 PM #
rm:
There was a fashion at one time in American mapping to label trails, even swamps, with their names in order to make the maps more pleasing to the general public, the land managers, the cartographer. And at least one mapper liked to put seemingly mirthful places names on the map, or in the map title (though some were in fact real place names).

BorisGr:
To respond to Hammer, here is my best-ever list:

Men
1. TG
2. Thon
3. Hubmann
4. Lundanes
5. Martensson
(Honorable mention to Valstad and Thoresen)

Women
1. Niggli
2. Alexandersson
3. Kringstad
4. Kauppi
5. Lindkvist
(Honorable mention to Staff)
Jul 6, 2017 8:21 PM #
Hammer:
My top five men were exactly the same but for the women I had Kringstad and Alexandersson reversed and couldn't decide on my number five woman but i was leaning towards Alm.
Jul 6, 2017 8:24 PM #
BorisGr:
I thought about Alm, but I think she needs an individual forest gold in order to crack the top five.
