Hi everyone! I'm being an idiot and I can't figure out how to print at a different scale in the newest version of Purple Pen. The map is at 1:10,000 and I'd like to print at 1:5000/4000. I selected 1:5000 when I added the new courses, but the PDFs I export are still at 1:10.
Feeling very silly right now :)
Thanks!
Course -> Properties - > print scale
(or something like that, I have Finnish language version)
OK, related question. According to ISOM 2017, the overprinting symbols are supposed to be enlarged proportionally with the map printing scale. Purple Pen seems to want to keep the control circles at 6 mm when the print scale is changed. (Among other things, this makes the gaps in control circles appear in the wrong places). It's possible to adjust all of the sizes under Event-CustomizeAppearance before printing each course, but is there a better way?
Interesting point, which reminds me that it can be handy to bump up the line width if using 1:10k @ 1:5k in Purple Pen, otherwise the map itself will overwhelm the course. Not to spec perhaps, but practical considering 1:5k printing of 1:10k might not be to spec anyway.
Print to pdf without changing anything (other than print area), open the pdf with Adobe Reader (or what ever app you use) and print that on paper enlarged 150% or any % to produce the scale you want.
I can probably get that to work, assuming I can get whoever is operating the printer to understand what I want. User defined print area for each course that isn't at the default scale, but that's not too bad.
You can also print that pdf enlarged 150% to a new pdf file. Not sure is there quality losses.
Click on event and scroll down to Customize Appearance. Change circle size and line thickness as needed. Why would you need a better way, jj?
Well, yeah, changing all of those numbers before printing each course seems like a fine solution, but I went with Jagge's suggestion for the test prints, and the print guy was able to do the enlargements that I needed (face to face, with me able to see his screen). The test prints look good enough, so I'm ready to go ahead with the full print order.
I put a suggestion on the PP forum some months ago, just after ISOM2017 was announced, that the map scale should automatically determine the symbol sizes, but my suggestion was denied and then erased.
I agree with JJ's point though, it would be nice if Purple Pen would enlarge the overprinting symbols proportionately when printing one or two courses at 1:5000, with the map and other courses still being at 1:10000. Or at least have that as an option. The work-arounds are possible but a bit awkward in my opinion.
