World Orienteering Day is rapidly approaching-- officially May 23-29, 2018, but in the U.S, it will be May 19-29, 2018.

WOD provides a great opportunity to spread the word about orienteering events that are happening around the world. People in your community, young and old alike, can be part it. This year, OUSA has an initiative to help bring newcomers to all your club’s events by creating publicity about World Orienteering Day and launching a revamped OUSA homepage including a “Find-a-Nearby-Event” feature.

To get involved and participate in WOD and the OUSA initiative, please go to the OUSA Library and review these documents: The "WOD Club TO DO List" and the "Press Release template." The TO DO List should only take a few minutes and the customizable press release will save you time in publicizing your WOD event.

And even if you are NOT hosting a WOD event, we need you to check/update your club info on the OUSA website and list your upcoming events on the Attackpoint events list.

If you have suggestions or questions, please contact: Mary Jo Childs, OUSA WOD Coordinator, at mjcdodie@gmail.com

Maybe if we entitled this thread "OUSA has a new website" it would get more traffic.

Except it only has a new home page, for now.

Also a new feed of local events which is a big deal, and a new page Ken created with a nice arrangement of map and events list with links that go right to the local club page. Also a fixed map of the clubs. Much better for newcomers and hopefully clubs will take advantage of the press release template we drafted for their WOD events, which could bring more people to the website. It is now much much easier to find an event near you from the OUSA home page.

I was just catching up and following links. The OUSA home page has a link to "Find a Nearby Club" not a "Find an Event Near You". ( Unless you meant the "Find a World Orienteering Day Event Near You".) Under "Get Outside and Explore" , can there be a fourth link under the "Find a Nearby Club" which says "Find an Event Near You" which would remain relevant all year long? Or, could you replace the words "Find a Nearby Club" with "Find an Event Near You"?

Also, on the OUSA new home page, when you click on "Find a Nearby Club" it takes you to the USA map which tells you to click on a marker on the map, but the markers do not appear. I think that is the feature that was not working in the past, but wasn't it working just a few days ago? I emailed Dave about this.

Mary Jo, next to Upcoming Events, do you see the link in gray for Complete event list? I think that's the one you want. If (once you click the link) you put in your location or zip code, you'll get a list of events in your local area. Thanks to Ken (Mr AP) for enabling this feature!

The markers appear for me on Safari, Firefox, and Android/Google.

At various times the markers have been slow to appear for me or required me to zoom in a level before they appeared. Almost certainly browser related. Annoying enough that I haven't bothered with the map in years and just go to the list by state.

We have a few events here in Ottawa on the day in addition to regular events on the 19th, 20th and 27th...see

It seems to be a browser issue. I use Chrome. I can get to the list of events using Janet's suggestion which takes me to the AP list (which is great), but when I use the Nearby Club feature, I get no control marker symbols on the map. The options of searching by state and by zipcode work just fine. I think Dave Yee is consulting with the web designer about this.
