When you were in the military were you required to rake the forest in Finland to reduced wildfire risk?

Yeah but it is apparently *Sweden* that rakes its forest floors. Any info on that, Anton?
oy our potus sux ...
Nov 18, 2018 7:51 PM #
djsanton97:
Still a no. We or Sweden, don't rake our forests, we just do forest thinning(I hope thats the right term...) regularly
Nov 18, 2018 8:32 PM #
bubo:
I wish the Swedish forests were raked. That way I wouldn´t have to lift my legs so much and also stumble less...

I wonder what percentage of the US population now believes that Finns rake their forests?

a) 20%
b) 40%
c) 60%

So many stupid people

Danish Dynamite:
Well to be fair, you not so long ago believed Finns raked their forests as well
Nov 19, 2018 1:51 PM #
peggyd:
Okay heard the audio today of POTUS mentioning that the Finns rake their forests, so he’s pan-Scandinavia stupid.
But hey, as Bubo said, I’d love to run through a raked forest!

peggyd:
Hammer: I’d go with 40%, Drumpf’s max approval rating, because the rest of us think independently...
Nov 19, 2018 2:08 PM #
djsanton97:
peggyd: ...after hearing the truth. But yea, the Finnish president says he has never even talked about taking care of our forests with Mr Trump...

I think a lot of us now just assume anything potus says isn’t true, only sometimes verifying that. In this case people may have had to check because most Americans know nothing about Finland. :-( News reports are adding that the Finnish president, or whoever potus talked to, didn’t say anything about raking the forests ... Most reputable media outlets are now calling him out in real time.

Perfect! I like it how on point our head of government is nowadays, so precise.
Nov 19, 2018 4:30 PM #
Hammer:
Yeah my three options were deliberately 40%, 40-20%, 40+20% knowing that it was 40%. Which really is a terrible sign for quality of life in the USA (and the world) if there are still that many followers. What is shocking is that a lot of Americans are losing their lives to natural disasters and guns yet the government believes that others are a risk to their safety. Heck Drumpf has labeled Canada a security risk to the US. WTF!?

DD: Managed vs. raking and cleaning are very different things. Though then again perhaps this tweet will make it to Fox and Friends.

He rated his presidential performance as A+...

I agree if that's "A" as in "A--h--e". :-D
Nov 20, 2018 12:39 AM #
peggyd:
He asked if he could go higher than A+.

Love the tweet. I'm sure the Finns are all having fun with this!

Actually - in an earlier life (in the 1900s) - I once ran in a forest that well may have been classified as raked.
In a small race in Romania I noticed hordes of older women picking whatever small branches they could find to use for fire wood. The people was very poor in those days and picking whatever branches you could find was apparently free.
The ground in the forest was basically clean as a football field only a bit more hilly.

Bubo, indeed, in Romania firewood, as long as you did not chop or cut anything, was free and you could take home as much as you could carry. All forests were public domain.

djsanton97:
Are the maps there any good or just the raked undergrowth?
Nov 20, 2018 4:47 PM #

Natalia Deconescu moved back to Romania after her retirement in Chicago, and now enjoys her retirement orienteering all over the country. In some way I envy her - I used to love the mountains and forests there, growing up orienteering in some really gorgeous places. And in many places people still collect firewood ...
