I found that out a while ago...had a Ford Pinto that need a little shake occasionally.

Yea its so weird, like the car is brand new and still you have to use somekind of old trick to get it going

It's just the interlock...

On my Saab, I sometimes have to pull back a bit on the shifter, to be able to turn the key.

A firm tug on the wheel, in either direction, would probably work as well as a shake.

It's common in most cars (?). It locks the steering wheel* if you turn it - I think it´s to the left - when you have turned the car off and taken out the key.
I seldom use it or think of it but actually noticed the other week that I have it my car.

Yea okey, might be that most of the car have it but not the ones I have been driving
