Really impressed by the Finnish hockey team. It is one thing to beat a semi stacked, over confident Swedish team but then beating a super stacked Russian team. Wow! And only with players from domestic league. Finnish Sisu!
Exactly!! And some of the players play outside of Finland but still none from NHL. Sisu is involved but also the coach, Jukka Jalonen. He is back as the head coach and his strategies and atmosphere in the team have lead us this far I think.
It would be awesome to see a Canada-Finland final tomorrow and then Finland winning of course ;)
Sorry. Only one of those wishes is going to be true tomorrow.
It should be a good game since Finland is the only team to beat Canada at the tournament. It would be Finland’s third title (one more than the US for those AmeriFinns keeping track).
World hockey champs has had 80 titles.
Canada dominated the early era then Soviets and Czechoslovakia during the ‘cold war era’. Sweden has dominated since pros were allowed to play. The country that has underperformed at this championship is the US. Overall:
Canada has won 26
Soviet Union 22 (27 combined with Russia)
Sweden 11
Czechoslovakia 6 (13 combined with Czech and Slovakia)
Czech Republic 6
Russia 5
Finland 2
USA 2
Slovakia 1
Britain 1 (made up of dual citizens living in toronto)
Yea so before 2011 Finland and Britain had both one victory. But tomight the third one will come !!
Finland beats Canada again!
Ok Emma, Jan Erik, Christian and Emily...it’s time for revenge at the World Cup
