WCOC will be hosting a one day NRE on Saturday, November 9, at Ansonia Nature Center (sanctioning pending), with HVO hosting a local meet at nearby Mountain Lakes on Sunday, November 10.
More info will be posted later, but for now here are the basics of Saturday’s NRE:
Where: Ansonia Nature Center, Ansonia, CT. This was the site of the 2004 Intercollegiate Champs and a 2010 2-day A meet, with the map having been recently updated.
NRE Costs: $10 for individuals, $15 for families.
Pre-registration is encouraged but not required. To pre-register, email Rick DeWitt (wrdewitt@snet.net) and include (i) your name; (ii) SI (dibber) number, if you have one; (iii) date of birth; and (iv) class you wish to compete in.
Payment and waiver forms will be handled at the meet.
Start any time between 10:00 and noon. No pre-assigned start times, but there will be a start crew to hand out maps and assure a minimum 2 minute window between starts on the same course.
Event Officials:
Meet Director: Rick DeWitt
Course Setter: Joe Brautigam
Course Vetting: Pavlina Brautigam
This looks fun! Any chance the HVO event will also be an NRE?
The HVO event will be a chase-start race with the start order and - time intervals based on the course results from the WCOC NRE. Consequently, no HVO NRE.
It should be a super fun weekend with fast running terrains and two good maps. To make the chase start more exciting, the start intervals for each course will take place within a short, maybe five minute window, so almost like a mass start chasing the leader...
Do OUSA rules now prevent sanctioning chase starts? NEOC used to do chase start on day 2 of their A meets regularly.
Based on the contemplated HVO event format with a mass-start five minutes after the leader’s start, NRE status was never considered for this particular race. The goal is to create a fun, low-key event.
It is my understanding that fee-waiver NREs cannot be part of a multi-NRE event.
Also, each club can only have one per year, and HVO already had theirs at Ward Pound Ridge, in June.
Ansonia and Mountain Lakes are the best!
