I am looking for orienteering events for my scouts in the vicinity of El Paso, TX. Could travel to Albuquerque as well.

No organized club in the vicinity at the current time, though there may be individuals scattered here or there.

At the present, your closest O appears to be the Southwest Spring Week events in Tucson and Phoenix between Feb 14-23.

Click here, put in El Paso, and zoom out to see your closest events.

I just got word a few days ago that the New Mexico Orienteering in Albuquerque area is planning to start back up this year after a several year hiatus. I'll see if I can find more info...

Thanks much. This closest to us are Tucson/Phoenix meets. Long drive for young scouts for a weekend. Their weeklong event is when my scouts are in school. I did read that nm orienteering had an interest meeting last week. I did not see ant contact info. I know that JROTC units have annual meets. Haven't found a poc yet.

Sir, My parents Brian and Jenny are working with previous NM orienteering members to recharter, remap and get at least 1 event on the calendar for the year. If you would like more information my dad's email is brian.loustaunau@gmail.com and he can help you out.

Praisehim2000 could you please e-mail to me gordhun@rogers.com . I had been assuming that what you were looking for is orienteering maps and opportunities in or close to El Paso. I can help with the maps. So probably can many others.
For instance, do the scouts have an orienteering map of their camp in Cloudcroft, NM? I had never heard of that area before but what a bit of orienteering heaven!! It looks like terrain near Lake Tahoe where this year's North Americans will be held. If you need an orienteering map there and can pinpoint the camp on a map or aerial photo I'll get you a base map.

I used to live in Cloudcroft. There is some nice terrain up there, although other than the forested ridge and open-bottomed re-entrants it is somewhat featureless. Great running and XC skiing though. One could put on a fine rogaine up there. Stage out of one of the USFS group camps or any convenient large, grassy re-entrant. Like the high part of the Mogollon Rim in AZ, there isn't much surface water.
