HVO and WCOC have decided to extend the Winter Series through April.

WCOC’s scheduled event at Gay City will be organized in the Winter Series format with courses available from March 28th to April 19th. Course designer Clinton Morse intends to add a Pink course (long yellowish course for trail runners/newbies) and possibly a Yellow course. HVO and Geof Connor will add a new event at the Silvermine map.

Updated Winter Series schedule:
1. Muscoot Farm Feb 22 – Mar 22. (incl. no-stonewall maps)
2. Ansonia Mar 8 – Mar 29.
3. Ward Pound Ridge. Corridor orienteering training courses
4. Gay City SP Mar 28 – Apr 19 Red/Green/Brown/Pink/Yellow courses
5. Silvermine (from Tiorati Circle) Apr 4 - 27

If competitive race restrictions still apply by the second half of April, Gregory Balter has volunteered to organize additional Winter Series style courses at Harriman, details to be advised. Also, note that the WS#4 controls at Hurd SP are permanent controls, so those courses are available at any time as well (email me if you need Hurd course maps)

Brian Gatens here. Local to Northern, NJ. Long time fan. First time caller (talk radio joke). I'd like to help organize a similar setup either in some local state woods in NJ. All still remain open and these series-type courses may be a good and effective solution to the need to remain as individuals but still get outdoors. I'll reach out via the HVOC site for guidance and help.

@bpg: Almost all current HVO maps in NNJ are of county-owned parks, primarily Essex and Morris. I'm unsure about Morris, but Essex County parks are supposedly closed. However, there appears to be some confusion over the meaning of "closed"; at least at the park near where I live (Caldwell), there are no signs, other than at the playground, indicating closure.

Hey folks
Quick update - I ran Harriman yesterday and it was a blast. On the parking front I got lucky with one of the last spots at Tirorati so I'd recommend if you go on a weekend either go really early or after 4pm when people were starting to clear out. The park is limiting parking by placing cones on alternate spots. I had gotten concerned when I saw a big road sign on the way up the palisades that said all parking was full but need not have worried. The mix of real flags and permanent markers was no problem. Brian if you want to coordinate on a course in northern NJ drop me a text at 646 515 7838. Wondering how I can get the maps for Gay City?

Jeremy - Gay City was cancelled as the parking situation was already getting out of hand two weeks ago and worsening.

Got it - is putting Ansonia or Muscoot farm back out a possibility as an alternative?

Have you done Hurd? It's permanent.

No chance of putting Ansonia back out. No time.

Putting Muscoot back in could be a possibility but an alternative is to use LIVELOX. Ed Hicks has set it up for Muscoot and for a Alley Park in Queens - see HVO website https://www.hvorienteering.com/ for details. If you want the Muscoot maps to run without flags let me know and I will repost.
