I have been using for a few years now the method shown by Bill Cusworth for creating georeferenced aerial backgrounds created in MapPuzzle and reprojected in QGIS, to use as background in OCAD (page 59 of https://drive.google.com/file/d/1DkoqZlpyJPSec8oq3...).
I have though had troubles getting anything useful past version 3.14.6 of QGIS, and they are now to 3.18.3. The file gets created, OCAD asks whether infrared or not, and then freezes.
I do keep a copy of the 3.14.6 so I can go back, but hopeful someone may have found the glitch or a solution?

Sounds like a question for the OCAD Help desk.
But Andrea I assume you have OCAD 2018 or later. If so you have the option of the OCAD On line Map Service to automatically get geo-referenced aerial images placed correctly in background. What advantage does MapPuzzle have? It seems a lot more work for what gain?

Helping novice OOM mappers of small educational maps, and as time passes, it is getting harder to find the older version for download

One thing to verify is that the mappuzzle world file (pgw?) has an identical filename to the png file. For some reason, it often has a few tenths or hundredths of a second of difference. If it is different, it won't work. I manually correct the pgw filename so it matches the png.

Also, I reported this to the mappuzzle author, and I think he said he fixed it, but I think it's still broken.

@cedarcreek - thanks; no though, unfortunately not the case :( file name for png&pgw and tiff&tfw pairs were the same

@andreais: David Waller just texted me saying he's having the same problem, and it made me remember something.

When people use old OCAD 8 for mapping, I have to set "No Compression" under "Create Options" in QGIS to get the old standard GeoTIFFs.

Again, in the dialog box where you specify output name and folder and all that, look for "Create Options", and one of the pull down selections is "No Compression".

I didn't think this was a problem for new OCAD or OOMapper.

Found the "Create Options" in QGIS 3.18.3 under Settings>Options>GDAL>Edit Create Options>No Compression
Unfortunately OCAD still freezes in same place

But alas, works just fine in OOM!!
