Dear Orienteering Community:

The heart of the sport of orienteering is having a good quality map in which to put on a map. So where does one go to get training on how to make an “orienteering map”?

This year (July 25-July 31) The Boy Scouts of America in conjunction with BSA Compass (the North American distributor for OCAD) is putting on it’s first orienteering map making training course (Map My Camp) at the Philmont Training Center, Cimarron, New Mexico. If anyone is interested in learning how to make an orienteering map, I suggest they attend this course. There are still plenty of spaces available! For more information check out their website philmontscoutranch.org.

Hi, Is the course open to anyone, or just scouts?

Who is "BSA Compass", can't find anything on them . As someone who has had OCAD for 14 years now, I was kind of waiting to see who took over from Ed, I would have expected to get an e-mail from the new distributor if Ed's list would have gotten transferred to the new rep.

Pretty sure it's Brian Coleman. Among other things, BSACompass is his Attackpoint name.

Brian Coleman is the new OCAD distributor. He is working with OCAD to get the list of North American clients.

Brooke, we would be happy to have you attend. I do not believe you have to be a member but I am not sure.

Who are the North American experts on the different orienteering mapping software?
(Matthew Robins?, Gordon Hunter?)

The YMP team has a mentorship program set up for mappers in the program that is seeing some positive results.
