Thanks a lot, Stephanie! Great details.

A question (of course!):

Section 10.e. (Page 22) has the list of "Cumpulsory Gear (IRF RULE D9)", which doesn't include a first aid kit. Appendix S4.2.g (Page 56) mentions a required first aid kit. I would assume that the IRF RULE supersedes the Appendix, and a kit isn't required?

If not, and we do need a 'first aid kit with a minimum set of contents, including electrolyte replacements' ... what is the minimum set of contents, and the quantity (and type?) of 'electrolyte replacements'? Team ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ Gummy Bear Overlords ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ is happy to interpret this as we see fit, but ... ;)

:) I was curious about that, too. I suppose we can hit the casinos without heading back to the car. And a limo from the lake up to Tahoe City at 5AM for breakfast does sound good.

The missing First Aid kit and electrolyte replacement was an omission, sorry. The warm jacket is changed to "recommended", since we feel that a blanket and thermal top are sufficient for the mid August expected weather. We also enhanced the "recommended" list. Edits which will be added to the Bulletin are shown below:

COMPULSORY GEAR (IRF RULE D9)

For safety reasons and because of the high mountain environment, (range of weather conditions at the highest checkpoint could be from freezing to 100F in August), the list of mandatory gear is:

· A minimal First Aid kit, including electrolyte replacement for 4 liters of water.

· SI card with non-removable wristband, provided by the organizers.

· Competition number bib. Bib numbers must be visible during all the competition.

· A whistle.

· A GPS tracking device provided by the organizers (one per team).

· Mobile phones will be allowed in race for safety equipment, but competitors must carry them sealed in a tamper-proof bag provided by the organizers. The phone may be removed from the bag in case of emergency. Bag seals may be checked at the finish; if unsealed, the team is disqualified.

· A normal watch. Watches with GPS or any navigational aid are not allowed.

· At least two liters of water.

· An emergency blanket (one per team)

· A beanie or cap which covers the head

· A thermal top with long sleeves

RECOMMENDED GEAR

In addition to compulsory gear, we recommend these items:

· Electrolyte replacement for 8 liters of water, and a Hiker's First Aid kit with blister abatement, wound management, antihistamine, medications, etc.

· Food

· Compass

· A warm jacket for night mountain weather conditions

· Sun protection

· Some money

Are there any equipment requirements for the 4-hour map hike? Are GPS watches allowed?

hughmac4, if you come across a casino while you are on the course, I think you will be off the map. The closest ones are in Crystal Bay, 7.25 miles as the crow flies, in Nevada.

That’s what the limo is for, origamiguy.
