Oh, wow. We've been to Craters of the Moon a couple of times, but never when it was skiable. Sounds amazing. Hope you're mom's ok - there are some hard, sharp rocks out there under all the snow. How much snow is there, anyway?
I guess they groom a loop on the road once a week throughout the winter! Because it's so far from anywhere, the snow was nearly untouched when we were there (2 days after they last groomed!). There was plenty of snow to ski. Lots of bigger rocks poking through on either side of the road, but all the small stuff was covered up. It would have been really neat to be there with some sunshine - a reason to go back now!
Definitely tempting to visit for skiing! I want to say we've come through in cold and rain, and in the heat of summer. Hot temps can get to you pretty quickly with all the black rock! But it's geologically interesting. I think we concluded we weren't in a hurry to camp there, though, which unusual...national monuments tend to have the best campgrounds.
