I’m good with thumbing on the map when using my thumb compass but when I use the magnifier that’s attached to my thumb compass the compass baseplate tip/point doesn’t seem to be in the right place for thumbing—it’s always positioned short of my location.

Do I need to relearn how to thumb when using a thumb compass magnifier?

I’m always lifting my map up close to see and that also requires lifting my eyeglasses out of the way so I need to figure out how to use my magnifier when thumbing.

Does anyone have any tips.

I don't use a magnifier (yet), but one thing that I have done that you might want to look into is a special pair of eyeglasses. I usually describe them as having "the bottoms of the lenses cut off". My prescription is for nearsightedness (which it sounds like yours is as well). The glasses have a comparatively small lens shape (top to bottom), and I had the optician adjust them so that they sit very high on the bridge of my nose, such that when I look at the map, I'm looking under the lenses. It's the same idea as bifocals, except the bottom half is no correction, and so it's just not there at all. This also provides good airflow, which helps keep the lenses from fogging up.

You could consider using one of the new moscompass baseplates with the extended arm which I find makes it easier to thumb with the magnifier (will fit any moscompass)

Interesting design. I'm not sure what the purpose of the square back is. Moscow compasses have a well-deserved reputation for durability*, but that arm in front looks like it's just asking to be snapped off.

*not counting bubbles -- I've had a number of them develop significant bubbles, and in one case half of the liquid leaked out.

Thanks.
My eyeglasses are for both near and far sighted.
I didn’t know about the new Moscompass extended baseplate.

Today I used my old moscompass and its magnifier. Thumbing was actually pretty good but looking ahead I found I couldn’t see enough.

This weekend I’ll try my Silva with its magnifier.

But is it needed to boycott Moscompass now?
