Congratulations to Eric Bone, the new 2008 Trail Orienteering Champion in the Open class. Joe Brautigam was second, and Dan Felitsky was third. There were 74 competitors, including all members of the current U.S. Trail Orienteering team and many past members, and Eric was the only competitor to "run the board" with a perfect score. The average score was 7 out of 14.
Are there any results anywhere? What happened about the contested controls?
Results have been sent to the BAOC webmaster and I believe will be posted this evening.
The jury reviewed the four protested controls (7, 9, 12, timed 2) and also reviewed control 3. All controls were upheld, and the protests were denied. The jury report will be published later this week. The basic conclusions were that map imperfections were found for 3, 9, and 12, but not sufficient to throw out the control. Timed 2 (and also timed 1) were too difficult to be optimal timed controls, but were set properly. 7 was well designed and set, with no map flaws.
