Andrew:
I'd like to put my maps online. I don't have a personal website. What is the best website for posting maps? Opera? Smugmug? Any others?

Flickr is pretty good, just upload them as if they were photos. It's a free too

I'd recommend dropbox

Is this the Dropbox site you recommend?

I'd like to have the cursor become a magnifier, and show up with a little "+" inside the circle. Do any of these sites offer such a feature?

I recommend Doma: http://www.matstroeng.se/doma/ , though it does involve getting yourself a site.

chitownclark,

yes that's the site. I've noticed they revamped a few things, but basically it works just like an extended file folder of your computer. Only it is hosted on the web. You may or may not share what you want from your files.

Thanks all! Interesting links - I thing I like best Mats 'doma', even though it involves getting a site. Dropbox looks very good though - and allows other files to be shared with family/friends... How secure is it?

Dropbox will only share files you upload. As to one's you upload that you don't want to share - I can't vouch for their security on that.

But for myself, I actually use it to share files back and forth between my laptop and desktop. It sync's brilliantly in that regard.

Anyone here use Doma? I just tried installing it and I'm getting a parse error when I try to go to the index page. All I changed were the db variables in config.php and file permissions on index.php. I know it's provided "without support", but I'm not sure how I could have broken it.

See parse error here (unless it fixes itself...):

Cristina: I think it is because you use php4 on your host, and it requires php5. I am not sure, though. I got some other errors for my local computer running php5 which I haven't had time to find out about yet.

Ah, well, that could certainly be the issue.
