Charlie:
Mashamoquet/Wolf Den State Park is a mixed hardwood forest, with relatively open and bland terrain (by New England standards) in the northwestern part, and steeper and rockier areas with scattered areas of relatively dense mountain laurel in the south and particularly the southeast. There is an extensive trail network, with numerous stone walls in parts of the park. There are a number of rootstocks, but they are not mapped. The vetter feels that this area has more than its share of misshapen mutant trees. See if you agree. The map was originally field checked and drawn by Clint Morse in 2000/2001. It is still excellent. Updates were done by J-J Coté as needed to accommodate the courses for this meet.

The streamered walk to the start is 700 meters, mostly along the park entrance road and including about 75 meters along the side of a busily traveled road (Rte 44). Ten minutes should be adequate to get there. There is a limited warm-up area near the start.

All courses will cross the stream that parallels the park road late in the course. There is only one bridge. There is no advantage to be obtained by crossing anywhere else, as the stream is wide and fairly deep, and may be moving fast. The bridge is an obvious route, but you can also see it along the walk to the start.

Blue, Red, and both Green courses will pass by the finish before a final loop, providing a spectator opportunity. The best route for those runners in passing the finish area will be along the park road. Please do not run through the finish chute until you are actually finishing.

When you are driving along the park road, be aware that runners will be crossing on their courses.

Blue has a map exchange. There will be a control flag at the map exchange, but no punch. There will be a box with maps for Leg 2 and a separate box to drop your Leg 1 map. The map exchange may or may not be manned.
