MC Bruno possibly screwed by incompetent officials

Possibly?

I would hope the Canadians raise a little hell with the IOF.

Barbie:
ah I decided to drop it because we didn't get our original maps back so who knows. At least Sharon was lucky enough that they looked at her map wtih her right away. But she did end up having to go to the same control twice because of that, and sadly that one was a little further than the real one should have been.
Imagine if it had been one of the big guns... they migh have had to cancel the race. Crazy stuff.
But it was really awesome over there, other than the apocalypse the day of the middle distance.

jjcote:
I only said "possibly" because all I had at that point was newspaper reporting, which could be erroneous, as opposed to an actual first-hand account.

I'm quite appalled.

PG:
And I actually hope the Canadians raise a lot of hell. Just like any of the other teams would.

It's pretty clear that Marie-Cat's "infraction" of the rules by not protesting within an hour pales in the face of a major screw-up by the event staff. And to not acknowledge and correct the error is inexcusable!

Hammer:
A rule like this disadvantages the smaller countries that don't have the several coaches and team leaders with and indeed racers. The larger countries are able to mobilize people quickly to check the rules, ask for the map, talk to other leaders, racers to gain feedback before to formulate a protest well and properly. You would think that organizers would be excited and indeed IOF too when a strong (best) performance is put in by countries like Canada (or maybe not).

Nevertheless, congrats M-Cat - awesome results. Well done.

Congrats to Marie-Cat for a great race. What a goof up by the organizers - that is really sad they don't admit the mistake.

eddie:
This is just absurd. If there are mis-programmed numbers in the finish computer they should (and still can) automatically check ALL of the MPs by default and reinstate everyone affected, filed protest or not. And its so simple to fix...not like a misplaced control. No one loses face either. A typo is a typo. You fix it and its no harm done, but this is disgraceful and will leave a mark.

MC--if you need a posse to go bust some knees, I am there for you!
Mar 9, 2009 7:22 PM #
Nev-Monster:
Dude, if you call her MC again she'll probably start with you! My knees are still sore...

Anyone know where the next either WCs or World Champs for Ski-O will take place?

j-man:
Don't worry, I've got some music for her. That will cool her off or really flip her out. I am curious to see...

IOF Ski-O Schedule

It doesn't list any events in the future for World Cup or Champs as of now.

SandyHott:
Marie-Cat, I definitely think it would be worth getting the COF to file an official protest even after the fact, to have your great result re-instated! It should be an easy enough fact to establish that you were at the right control by checking your map (which presumably is still in the organisers' hands). As for the 1-hour protest time limit it is ridiculous in this case: what we are talking about is an organizer mistake, not something controversial like a missing punch (did it beep, did it not?). Adding your result to the list won't negatively affect anyone else, what could possibly be the argument against it?

Raise some hell!

Nev-Monster - I am in.

Barbie:
Hey guys
yeah yeah I know it's all very crazy, but at the time I decided to focus on my next race instead of focusing on that, because like Hammer said, when you're out there alone you have to be at coache's meetings, team leader's meetings, you have to test and wax your own skis, you have to be at the deposit for extra skis by 9 even if you don't race until 1.... it's very difficult to be out there by yourself so the last thing I wanted to do was to add to the stress. And I'd like to thank the Americans and the Swedes and the Finns for all the help too - they were all awesome to me.

I don't have my map yet to verify what was printed on it, so for now there's really no proof of anything. After all, maybe I really did get disoriented. No matter what, I'm dropping it. It's not like that result would have put me in the red group anyway.

And who called me MC? you should know that I won the sumo wrestling contest over there, hehe!

Nev-Monster:
Sudden: I didn't know there was a classic race?

I would love to do both a Ski-O WC and World Champs, but I think only if we'd have a relay team. The Lappe gang would be awesome to have.

While the situation is very unfortunate and shameful on the part of the organisers I think you made the right decision focusing on the next couple of races.

No matter the official results everyone back home knows how well you did. Congrats.

Nevin: Talk to Colin Abbott and perhaps Robbie Anderson about the ski-O relay team :) I have a feeling they would both love to join you and both do very well at local ski-O events

Nevin, you know I'd get my ski-o relay on. I know a place where we can get sweet gear, too.

Sudden:
Nev - dude, I can skate if I have to. Did 2h just the other day. American Birke is the goal for next year. With Marie-Cat we have a relay team.
Mar 10, 2009 2:45 AM #
Soupbone:
Birkie, did I hear Birkie. Hope to see more orienteers at the Birkie next year. All ski orienteers. Go Marie-Cat get some more skiing and sumo wrestling... You are our Canadian team...Hows US doing??

jjcote:
And who called me MC?

Sorry, I did it first (top of the discussion). Should have called you M-C.

Barbie:
By the way I heard rumours of WC's and potential WOC's in North America for ski-o.
It's time we start putting together our winning relay team ;-)
Mar 11, 2009 2:02 AM #
Nev-Monster:
Well, I think a Ski-O training camp would have to come first, then we could start thinking about a relay.
I'd combine the Euro trip with a World Loppet, although Sudden has already told me that there's only one race to consider. Something about 90km of double pole.
FastFlunky: but do you have the power to get us deals? Besides on Phonak stuff.
I can't believe Mark Rab's name hasn't been mentioned.
Barbie, who had the best suits?

Hammer:
good one Nev.

Øystein Kvaal Østerbø puts his maps online:
Part 2, with control 6 -120
Part 3, with control 5 - 121.
Both controls are close to each other (approx. 100m)
