I don't think I can bring myself to ask.

I believe I visited the same lot of rocks near the finish as you, but I came from the top.

The problem with following me is that you have to run REALLY SLOWLY. Or...you know...just wait for me at every control like someone else I could name.

9 and 13 certainly were danger controls, and 13 coming so late was even more so. I was lucky as I basically stumbled onto 9 and onto the lone boulder near 13.

Are you sure no. 2 was "an absolute spike"? - on the splits it looks like you lost about a minute - 2.24 to Catherine Loye's 1.16.

Don't be mean, Eoin. "Absolute spike" is a relative term for some of us.

For Jen, it frequently refers to seppuku with the control stand.

Thank goodness (again) for google :-)

Perhaps #1 was a drink stop so she lost time there after punching.

OK....#2 wasn't perfect but it didn't involve swearing which normally constitutes a 'spike' for me. I forgot that that was where I saw Jen going backwards and had a few brief words with her and got distracted. I was also going quite slow at the beginning there as I'm still getting used to aussie maps and terrain. As Jen said, it's all relative.

Spiking a control is relative, I agree with Miss Jen. One that one person will get to without a 5min error on the way could constitute a "spike" for them, a year later with some nav improvement they'd probably consider that a small error rather than a spike. When you're a crusty old former international orienteer like Eoin, then getting your Zimmer frame caught in some rocky ground a couple of times becomes a significant mistake and therefore not a spike... :-)
