Grisha, cross-training is great stuff. Just throw some swimming into your training mix and you're ready for a triathlon....

no I am just commuting, my ass is hurting from 40 min biking a day as it is. Do you have any advice on it - different seat or padded shorts, may be?

Joe:
you must get padded shorts. ask dima on special ones for your butt. also, might want to add some chamois butter to your grocery list.

There could be several reasons. Sure, seats and non-padded shorts are among the most common reasons. I have one spare saddle for sure (may be even two) that have enough padding that you don't even need to use padded shorts. They have also seat cutoffs in area that is even more critical for men. There is another reason most common among recreational cyclists during easy rides - all your weight load is on your butt if you don't push pedals hard enough. Therefore, you can change pressure on your butt by changing pressure on your pedals. I've this problem during easy recovery commutes and especially those days when had injuries and had to ride easy several days in a row. My Lena also has this problem despite very well padded seat and shorts. She learned to bike just two years ago, afraid speed and doesn't push pedals hard. Try switching to higher gears to see if applying more pressure on pedals helps you. You can pick up a saddle any time too. I'm commuting mostly in tri shorts with almost no padding these days and normally don't have problems because I forced to push pedals on my single speed - the gear combination is 15/48.

Just give it a time, pretty soon your butt will have enough cushion from all this biking :)

Yeah Greg, now you'll get all sort of advices from experts in the rear area...

maybe your seat is too high causing you to reach for the pedals and wobble from side to side.
