Discussion: A course of 165 controls

That's the latest claim, this time from France, although there seems to be some discussion as to the validity of the event. Map. Best as I can make out from the discussion, the objections were that there was no e-punching on the required 15% of the controls (as proclaimed in the rules issued by TG), and there was only one competitor. They say they will do it again, properly.

No time for mistakes! Do I have this right that the course was 15.5 K and done in under 2 hours? That's an average split of about 40 seconds. It would add difficulty to have to manage 4 Casio watches to record all the splits. What is the maximum # of splits attackpoint can handle?

attackpoint can currently handle 255 or 256 splits per course, and that could be increased arbitrarily.

Also, I believe that if you realy want to record all your splits there are sport wrist watches that record 200 splits, on the market.

That would take some really intense focus. Looks like a good training course to me, although a more watered-down version might work too.

I don't think I'd waste any time punching my watch to get splits on a course where the average leg was 40 seconds.

Any opinions about which route is best on the long leg? ;-)

But seriously, just looking over this whole course was a challenging test of my concentration. I guess I have some work to do in this department.

From http://www.orienteering-spain.com:

NEWS!
COME AND BEAT THE WORLD RECORD IN NUMBER OF CONTROLS PUNCHED IN ONE RACE DURING ONE DAY
Saturday the 26th of February, 09 00h.
Place: Guardamar, Alicante. Map: "Guardamar norte" and "La Marina". Number of controls: 150. Distance: 21,1 km. Cost: 20 €. SportIdent at all controls. Time limit: 4h

Looks like this is turning into a fad. It may be that J-J will need to boost the number of controls come August...

I've run on Guardamar Norte, and it is a great area.
Forested sand dunes, no underbrush -- lightning quick
and very technical -- fantastic training, and the
orienteering-spain folks do a first class job.

I'll do whatever it takes, assuming I can get my hands on enough flags and punches. Pawtuckaway has no shortage of control features.

The date that we're looking at is the Sunday of the second weekend in September, I believe -- the 10-11, with some kind of short course racing on Saturday. Brought to you as part of the UNO Camping Weekend.
